Nokia Beta Labs has released a new version of the PC-Suite for Nseries devices.
Nokia Nseries PC Suite is a collection of Nokia Nseries and third-party PC applications that seamlessly tie together your Nokia Nseries multimedia device and your PC.
Use the applications to transfer photos or videos from your device to your PC, to copy your favorite music from your PC to your device or to synchronize your calendar and contact information. And much more.
Because of the surprising and extremly huge size of the software package (325MB) high speed broadband connection is required.
Supported models: all Nokia Nseries devices. Works but not tested on other Nokia S60 devices.
Windows XP 32 & 64 bit (Professional or Home Edition, SP II) or Windows Vista™ Home Basic / Home Premium / Ultimate / Business including 64-bit editions
At least 500MB of free disk space
Minimum display resolution of 1024 x 768
Nseries PC suite v 2.0
Latest version of PC suite for Nseries phones is now available for free download at Nokia.com

marvellous, this comes out the day my broadband goes down.
I'm so annoyed, I'm going to go punch a kitten.
Actually...seen as we're all chummy...anyone fancy sending me a copy on CD?

Anybody else find this a bit bloated? I've installed this on both my Vista Laptop and my XP desktop and they both take a bit longer to start up now. Paticularly the Vista install, which is surprising as nothing else seems to have slowed it down at all.
Tip one. Remember to uninstall your old version of PC Suite, because the beta doesn't do that.
Issue 1 - The new slate grey/black look may be a reflection of the new N81/N95 phones and the N95 box, but its flippin difficult to read on a Laptop TFT screen.
Issue 2 - When installing it on XP it claimed the N95 wouldn't with DRM unless I installed WMP 11. I don't want to as WMP is great on my install. I have Napster To Go on my XP machine and it works fine with both my N95 and WMP (that is DRM).
Issue 3 - It still added something to my Media Player because WMP asked if I wanted to back up my licenses as I had new DRM content and when I opened Napster told me to hold on while it updated/reconfigured WMP. I hope it hasn't ballsed anything up
Now to the other bits
For those who haven't seen it the new interface is basically split into 4 tabs. Music, Photo/Video, Internet and Tools. There is also a drag and drop box on the interface that allows you to drag and drop (unsurprisingly) a file from your computer that is then copied to your phone.
Everything is being geared to the new N95 8GB and N81 launch. On the music tab there is the usual link to Nokia Music Manager, but also the link to WMP (a recognition perhaps that Microsoft tools can keep up with Apple???) and a web link to the Nseries web site, currently a coming soon page for what will happen for the N81, and then other devices. On the Inernet tab there is a link to the N-Gage store. Another coming soon (November 2007)
The tools tab has links to Map Loader and the Beta PC version of Download, that has much more content than the version I originally had via the one that came with my t-mob locked N95.
Part 2 to follow

Part 2
On the photos/video tab alongside Nokia Lifeblog there is a Nokia Photos application. On clicking this it seems to be an updated version of lifeblog. It imported most of my lifeblog data but at the moment no texts, etc (I don't know whether this is a setting or an exclusion as help isn't working yet).
Looking at it, it seems slightly slicker, but not that different.
However a few icons at the bottom of the app allows you to make a Muvee, rotate pictures, post to the web, etc.
The main addition is an organise folder, which is a folderised view (think Explorer) showing years and folders in separate folders. Other thing is you seem to be able to import web feeds.
Overall
A bit slower, but it appears to bring a lot more of the nokia features and applications closer together, to make it integrate with your PC and become more of 'what you do' with less effort.
Obviously an attempt to make the new phone launches show a more coherent device (which should be welcomed). An attempt to take on the iPhone. the Nokia devices are all substance, but it is a good idea to try and nick a little of the flimsy iPhones style.
Cheers

cheers for that. Very handy for those who have not had chance to play on it yet.

And it's been pulled...
Temporarily removed from Beta Labs. Coming soon.
We have removed Nokia Nseries PC Suite 2.0 from Nokia Beta Labs, as the software proved to be not mature enough for public beta testing. We are grateful for everybody who sent us feedback, and deeply sorry for inconvenience.
