Basically, I was set to sign up with T Mobile due to their unlimited data plan. I am currently on a O2 simplicity tariff, not bound to any contract but using a HTC Touch.
I called O2 to cancel stating data charges as my main reason. They assured me that from October 1st their data tariffs will change to better compete with their rivals. They also hinted that this was when the iPhone announcement would be imminent. They said that they were not allowed to give details of the plans just yet, but there were a few and could only confirm one at the moment - 200MB for £7.50. There 'could' be an unlimited option too, but I was advised to wait and see.
So I will give O2 the benefit of the doubt and wait two weeks until October 1st. If there is nothing satisfactory then I will get my PUK code and leave that network behind.

Thats interesting. Will be good to see what comes of this. Its vary rare that CS agents are given insider info about things like this. Most of the time they are only made aware of it a few days before hand, especially with something as high profile as the iphone. I suppose all we can do is wait and see what happens with it. Still, I suppose 200mb for £7.50 is acceptable, but still not completely competing with services like 3, who give 1GB for as little as £5 (or £10 with modem use), or T-mobile, who offer a heck of alot more for your £7.50.

I dont know what it is about o2, I just find them, well, uninspiring. They never seem to do anything unique. They just seem pretty plain and boring, and always slightly behind the rest. Look at all the other networks. They are releasing HSDPA (havent actually heard anything from o2 yet regarding HSDPA, and if it is happening, its very quite), announcing data packages left right and centre, and all o2 can do is lag behind, be the last to announce data packages which dont really compete, and decide that EDGE is more important then HSDPA. Its silly. It was the same when they released their 3G Services. The other providers were shooting ahead announcing their 3G Services, at 60 or 70% coverage, then o2 go and make a slow start, the last to release it, with only 40-50% coverage. Obviously this has grown now, but that pretty much sums up o2 for me.

Indeed now that O2 no longer include the 08 numbers in their tarrifs they do not seem to have much going for them at all.

Does this include Pay and Go data does anyone know.

O" are great for cheap calls but £3/MB is steep.

I often get frustrated with o2 lack of movement, shall we say.

They are the last to implement anything. Looking at the great services available on other networks like 3s x series, t-mobiles web'n'walk and mobile tv etc i alway think why O2 are behind.

However there are some things about o2 which are better then t-mobile and 3, e.g. good customer service, good reception, good calltime and texter tariffs. This is a step in the right direction. 200mg for £7.50 is not bad espeically if you like me have been on 20mg for £10 or 4mg for £5. I am just hoping that there is an unlimited option and that its not expensive.

Okay I can now reveal all, and it doesnt look good. I cant see many people sticking around with O2.

There are two new data tarriffs,

1) Web and surf = £7.50 and gives you 300MB of data, Streaming, Modem use, IM and SKYPE not allowed
2) Web Max = £30 and gives you unlimited data for any use with a fair use policy of 3GB

The iPhone will cost £200 on a 24 month contract. Its not 3G, but EDGE - O2 are currently rolling out and will expand their EDGE network.

looks like there will be an unlimited internet tariff on o2 (well at least with the iphone) according to todays bbc online report on the o2 iphone contract.

iphone users will have to sign an 18month contract for either 35, 45 or 55 a month which will include unlimited data usage.

im just wondering whether o2 will offer the same tariff for non iphone users.

Have just checked with o2 customer service. they said the new tariffs for iphone which include unlimited data usage will apply to existing customers but you will have to buy the iphone as well. so really the new tariffs do not apply to existing customers as we cannot use those tariffs with existing phones.

Why cant we have unlimited internet without having to buy an iphone.

lets just hope the new data boltons which are rumoured to be coming out soon are half decent.

They stated in Q&A that they'd be rolling out unlimited data tariffs to all customers from October 1st.

So wait a minute, are O2 not subsidising the phone much? So thats £200 plus an 18 month contract? I would love to say, people will never buy it, but they will, because its apple, and it's shiny.
