View Full Version : Any mods watching
I received a knuckle rapping for mentioning a certain app and the thread was closed by a mod. No problem with that, but, I emailed the mod and have not had the curtesy of a reply.
Furthermore a number of threads have been started and have discussed the app without having that thread closed, so what's the position mods?
One rule for some and another rule for others?
I'm all for rules of engagement, but we all have to have them applied fairly.
Just wish to get this cleared up.

Hi,
The rules and regulations on the 3G Forum are put in place for a reason.
The main reason for these is to protect the user. The last thing we want is for members to try these applications and end up destroying their phone because they dont know what they are doing properly, and they blaming the Forum. We dont do it because we dont want you to talk about it.
Its extremely difficult and alot of work to manage such a large forum. The 3G Forum now has nearly 130,000 members, and we are growing rapidly each day. Its very hard for our management team go through every thread and read every posts to look for things that break the rules, so some of the time, unfortunately, things slip through the net.
Im sorry this has happened, however we dont treat certain members differently to any other members, or we dont have a special set of rules for some and not for others. Like I said, things sometimes slip through the net, and, however hard our management team work to prevent this, there will always be the odd thread or post which we miss.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused, however we pride ourselves on a high standard of management, and we have a great management team here, all of whom are volunteers, and give up their free time to help us, and they are doing a great job. I will try and get the problem resolved as quickly as possible.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi chaslam,
Many thanks for your response and your involvement.
I have become very concious of how a few dedicated users are always willing to jump to the assistance of the posters on this forum and if I can be as bold as to to speak for them I believe that to a man they hold similar views to the ones you have expressed. And I also believe that they would not want to induce anyone into contentious areas or give any advice that has not been bourne out by either hard graft with the devices in question or by accumulated knowledge from the combined contributors' vast experiences.
That said my only point of contention is that the forum rules in themselves do not prohibit the discussion of anything along the lines of the thread that was closed!
If there is some policy making on the hoof then it becomes impossible for the forum users to know what that may be and thus leaves things open to arbitrary sanctions. This can only leave the user confused especially when one 'banned' topic is then rediscussed somewhere else under a different thread without sanction.
It is this element that concerns me most as one can arrive a point of not knowing whether a very reasonable and pertinent subject can be discussed or not and I believe that it is this area that needs clarificationand and can only be achieved with the guidance of the mods.
I trust that this point is taken in the good faith in which it has been raised.
My good rep is important to me and I would not wish to see it devalued in any way.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. What you have said does raise a good point, and I will take it into account and raise the issue with the rest of the management team. We will discuss what you have mentioned and something will be done about it.
Thanks.
Sorry munimatt and pa49 I have deleted your posts as I think they were referring to posts that a possible mistake was made.

Yes, while it would be nice to be able to help people out with all their enquiries, there's forum rules for a reason. At the end of the day that's one post closed out of... over 100 probably? Someone asks, we just tell 'em to use the big frigging search button. Also if we open the rules up for 'the program that we cannot mention but if you've ever played a Resident Evil game, he's the bad guy' surely then we're opening the doors for people to be asking all kinds of things that we don't want on here. I use this forum because I like the fact there's not a million posts a day that go like this...
'Yo, I'm a total n00b 2 dis fone, an I got a krakd Route66 for it but I dunno what 2 do. Can any1 sign it 4 me?!?!?!?!?!?!'
All the other forums have gone to **** because they're all full of prats who want everything in life for free and can't be arsed to do it for themselves.
Like the mods have said, there's a massive amount of users on here and all it takes is one person to screw their phone up and then the guys who run this great forum are up a certain creek without a paddle. Or even a boat.
Like I said, someone asks we just tell them to use the search function or to use this great thing I heard about today. Can't remember what it's called now... oh it's coming back to me.
Google.
P.S. Did you like my chav speak?

No Pav, the only thing you've done to me is give me bad feedback when you didn't mean to :D

Pa49 if you are on about the thread I closed I have recieved no such email. It is possible because it is my hotmail account that it automatically chucked it in junk without alerting me. I have just checked and my junk folder appears to be empty, although it could have been deleted automatically

Hi E616Vboy,
I sent my email to 3gforum@3g.co.uk so maybe that caused a problem.

I agree with your comments matt.
The single difficulty is that the rules do not proscribe discussions along the lines of the thread that was closed and it's that single point that needs clarity.
After all, in every other regard we are a jolly bunch of miscreants, n'est ce pas?:cross-eye
