Got a text and a letter but it was only a matter of time before they brought themselves in line with all the other networks.

I have taken the first digit off the 08 numbers (I've removed the 08 from the 0800) so if I phone them it will remind me when I can't connect that I need to use the work phone.:devious: :devious: :devious:

I think it's absolutely outrageous that they give us free minutes then still charge us, oh well it was good while it lasted. How dare they change this on my birthday!

I'm assuming you have to have already made a considerable number or calls to these numbers? I haven't, but when I go back to college next week I'll be beginning my year-long search for work placements which require calls to these types of numbers. I'd much prefer to be sitting in a chilled out bar making calls all day rather than enduring the tedious task of sitting in a theatre tech box on a college landline phone :(

This will anger me a lot :(

Shame this, but it's been a long time coming.

You should be able to get out of the contract without penalty simply by pointing this out.. all contracts have standard clauses allowing you to refuse to accept a contract change that affects you detrimentally. They gives them a choice - terminate the contract or reverse the change.. and they probably can't do the latter. Might have to fight your corner a bit, but I've done it in the past and it does work.

Just a quick info update:

I understand that this is simply coming into line with other networks, so it's not really a big deal. However, I thought I would see O2's stance on this and Matt is correct, they even offered me to leave my contract! They also suggested that they could 'make me an offer I can't refuse' to stay!

Would I definately get to keep the phone?

What exactly did they say? I'm more interested in getting out the contract.

I called the 'billing' department and the girl said that I was well within my rights to leave the contract with no termination fee - Simple!

I think I will cancel then sign up to a simplicity SIM free tarriff and jump on the N95 8Gb on release! hehe!

So does this mean you can just cancel your current contract with them, then 10 minutes later, phone them up and get put straight back onto another one?!

Well that sounds good, might get myself another N95 then! Just wondering what I do about keeping my current number though.

They offered me a PAC. But obviously if you're going back to O2 then you can't use it. Just change network and go on one that actually gives a decent data package. O2 are the pits.

Yeah good point. The next contract I take out has to have a decent data package. Im leaning on 3 at the mo....

I've been on O2 for years now, didn't really fancy moving to another network! Is there anyway I can keep the same number by going back to them?

No. If you're looking down that route, I know someone who instead of cancelling went for a line rental discount. £20 off a month.

I was 02 for years as well. I onyl went back to get the N95 and bunged by 3 sim in it. Once I left O2, everythings been so much better.

Well basically the only reason I was thinking of doing this was just to get myself another N95 for my girlfriend, so was hoping to cancel, keep my N95 then sign up for a new contract with a free one. Ideally I want to keep my existing number so it looks like the only way around this is to go with another network.

From looking on their website, 3 don't offer the N95 for free though but offer the best data packages. Any suggestions?!

There is one way. Port your old O2 number to a PAYG on another netork and port it back.

That sounds like it could be a plan actually. I've got an Orange simcard here waiting to be activated, I could use that I suppose!

I guess one final question then, how soon do they terminate your contract after you phone them? Do I have like 30 days left on it or something?

munkimatt
08-09-2007, 02:24 PM
My only worry is that, from what I remember, the number is still in theory 'owned' by the original network.

When I sold phones, we had a customer who basically ported from one network to the next every year to get the best deal. When he came round in a full circle (back to Voda) it was nightmare.

bavlondon
08-09-2007, 02:25 PM
Yeah i think its 30 days but i asked for my PAC code. I think i get that texted to me next week.

how long do you have to be on the contract to get out of it. When was this new 08 number rule changed?

bavlondon
08-09-2007, 03:13 PM
I think if you signed up before April 27th it doesnt matter how long you have been on it. Some here have only been with them a few months and managed to do it.

Sorry for digging up what appears to be a very old thread but it seems quite relevant to my current situation..

I NEED OUT!!!!

The back ground to my problem is that I waited and waited for the Sony Ericsson W960i to be released and when it did I went for it.. That was my first mistake, its a terrible phone.

Anyway, I know there is a 14day returns policy for internet purchases but as I was out of the country on business I missed the oportunity to return the handset and go for something different.. Second mistake..

Anyway, I beared with the phone for a few months to see if it would grow on me.. IT HASNT.. It very nearly goes out of the window on a daily basis..

So, I have had my 18th month contract since January so I am 8 months in and I cannot stand this phone any longer.. I called the customer services team and explained the situation to them and explained that I am happy to take another 18 month contract (not neccessarilly the cheapest either) if they would end this contratc prematurely so I can take a different handset..

As you might expect the answer was no.. I am happy to stay with o2 I just need a different phone but they were having none of it..

I couldnt believe that they had the opportunity to retain a customer for more time by taking a new contract but they still said no..

So now I am looking for a way out..

Bloody hell, Im going on a bit here arent I.. Sorry..

Anyway, I read in this thread that if any prices are change during your contract you can get out..

So eventually here is my question...

Does anyone know of any pricings that have changed since Jan 08 that would alow me to get out of my contract?

Thanks for reading and bearing with me..

Greg

why not buy an unlocked phone you like and use your sim in it?

ManInBlack

Sell the phone on EBay...they're worth quite a bit! And buy a new phone! I do it all the time..... I'm obsessive compulsive according to the Mrs!!! :D

ManInBlack

Oh and BTW O2 do very nice 'in contract' prices if you wanted to buy a new phone (I've done it a couple of times) so by the time you've sold your phone you may have enough to buy a new phone from O2!!!
