I currently have the Vodaphone USB 3G modem and the contract is up at the end of next month.

My use is on the train from Exeter to Paddington.

Along the route on Vodaphone it switchs between 2G and 3G seamlesly, with a fare chunk being 2G.

So if I moved to 3, what happens when I go out of 3G range does it just go dead or seamlesly switch to 2g (Orange GPRS) ?

Or am I better off sticking with Vodaphone?

Thanks

Finally found something official on the 3 website confirming 2G data.

It's found here
http://www.three.co.uk/personal/help_support_/useful_information_/index.omp

Under Your Questions Answered Click on "All About Mobile Broadband"

Now click on "Speed and Coverage" then "What if I need to use Mobile Broadband outside the Turbo coverage? "

And here's the text confirming 2G data.

You will experience our fastest speeds when using Mobile Broadband in areas where we have Turbo coverage. However, outside of these areas our 3G network still provides good speeds for internet browsing across 90% of the UK.

Check our coverage map here for details of coverage in your area, and plans for improving speed in the future.

Please note: Although you can use Mobile Broadband in the UK when you roam onto 2G, the speeds are much slower.

The above post does not answer the OP question!

Your post does not say anything about 2G, it say's that if you are outside of turbo's coverage then you use the normal 3G network! Turbo and 3G are not 2G!!

Where did you get the please note part from?

I am the OP.

If you follow the link and the instructions on my previous post you will find the "please note" at the bottom of the text on the 3 website, this confirms 2G data.
