N95 8GB all the way... ;)
It's more compact and has a scroll wheel but what else? ;) hee hee
Oh just in case you didn't know it's got a 2.4in screen.

The N95 has a bigger screen and GPS - its too hard to choose!
I wonder if the navigation 'square' is clickable or only touch? I hope its both as only touch would ruin the feel of it.
Disillusion phones... that´s it. Same old screen resolution and nothing new at all. Pure marketing move.

What are you talking about - what isnt it different to!?

Wait a minute - the screen goes landscape in both orientations? Is this related to N-Gage software (ie will the N95 do it too) or N81 only?
What are you talking about - what isnt it different to!?
Just put those screen´s aside with N80 or E70 and see the difference...
Not to say, put those poor screens aside with Toshiba G900...
It´s a marketing move... To prolong life cycle and do more money, nothing else. microSD 8Gb cards are around the corner, so not even 8Gb is a wow thing.

I think there is a little more to it than simply the screen. Next to that Toshiba it looks like a different phone for a different category of user, you really arent saying much to me. The N80 yes has a better res screen, so you are telling me given the choice you would prefer an N80 over the N81? I really cant be bothered to explain the difference to you, if you cant see it already! If you read my post you will see that you can get an N81 with micoSD expansion or an N81 8gb internal - however all it seems is that you just want to knock the N81 without even knowing anything about it - how pointless/ignorant is that!
I´m tired... I already try all, all, S60 phones, and own several of them... But these days, most of then are marketing moves, no innovation at all. And my feel of today launch was deception, nothing more. Have a nice day ;)

You're missing the point. This launch was not about the phones. This is about the services, and that's where the cool stuff lays.

The d-pad doubles as a touch sensitive ring, giving music navigation an iPod feel to it -- important when you have  8GB:laugh: of storage onboard to play with. As far as we can tell, the functionality is limited to the music player and a couple other S60 components; we'd like to see its use expand by the time the device reaches production, especially considering how comfortable and easy to use it was.

I have the N81 8gb (had it for 1 day).
Here are the good points (all comparasions made against N80):
+Symbian OS runs quicker
+Multitasking works like a charm (music player is always active in the background and can play music while playing the n-gage games)
+Blue circles in the menu to remind you what you have open (had web browser, music player, ngage and asphalt 3 open with no slowdown)
+The N-Gage previews look great graphics wise
+Lots of buttons on the front, in a compact space (move to disadvangates if you have clumsy or fat fingers)
+Screen looks great
+Slider seems to be working fine
+Music sounds great and the speakers are very loud
+Music player works in the background (i.e cant turn it off) so you can push play or stop whenever you feel like it (even in other applications)
+Looks great
+option of turning the Navi Wheel on or off
+The screen is tough
+ call quality is excellent compared to N80
The bad:
-2 megapixel camera sucks so the videos and pictures are shoddy.
- Naviwheel does not work in all menus (only some such as music player, hopefully this can be updated in the future)
- Transfer rate is VERY slow. It was estimating 3.5 hours to transfer 3.5 GB so i had to transfer them in 200-300MB chunks incase i had to leave.
- Back cover seems a little flimsy, not sure how long it will last with knocks (dispite this, it does feel plasticy but solid)
- Cover attracts fingerprints, there is no point in cleaning it
- There is a hissing sound when playing games, not sure if mine is defective or if it is supposed to do that
As for the size and weight, although it sounds heavy, it doesn't feel it. I am using my old N70 as a second phone until my number transfers over to my new contract and it feels about as heavy as that. The N81 is about as thick as the N70 (including camera slide), Is shorter in length than the N70 and is a tad shorter in width.
This was my second choice in phone. I was going for the N95 8gb but it was a lot more expensive (Vodafone, 12 months, £35, 500mins 250 texts, £150 phone). The contract I got with the N81 was on O2, 12 months, £35, 400 mins, 1000 texts and £39.99 phone.

Well ive just got a trial handset of this. Got the special edition one with the Bose Headphones and everything. Its very nice indeed. I have to say its nice to have an Nseries phone with good build quality. Its got a nice weighty feel to it which the N95 or N82 just doesnt have, or any Nseries phone for that matter.
If it was me, I think I would go for the N81. Even though the N95 has better specs technically, there is just a charm about the N81 that I love!

I've had one for 2 or 3 weeks now and agree with everything Chaslam says. Was disappointed with the camera at first, as all the photos seemed a bit washed out. But, when I looked closely at the lens I realised that there was a tiny protective sticker across it. Was tough to remove (great idea Nokia !!!!) but once off, photos were great! (Only 2MP but this is a phone after all).
Got an N95 which I love, but this is better built!

Mmm - 1080p - the highest of the new high definition TV standards - is only 2 megapixels.

So I don't think the megapixelness is the problem - does this model have a decent Zeiss lens like the N95, I wonder...
