Hi,
I'm having a bit of a mare with Voda and just wanted a bit of advice really so heres my story...
I've ben with voda in one way or another (personal/company phones) for a good few years now but this particular issue relates to my own
personal contract.
My contract is 18mnths and has been running for 12 so far, I phoned them to see about an upgrade but they were not interested because the contract was not within 70 days of completion. Fair enough (although I dont see why not since Orange always offer early upgrades @ 12 months) here's what I tried to propose to them.
My existing contract: 35ppm
New contract: 15ppm for first 6 months, 30 thereafter (plus some extras, data package etc)
Ok, so I *could* drop my existing contract to the bare minium which is ~15-20ppm, take out the second contract to get a new phone and for the 6 months that the two contracts were running side by side I would'nt pay much more than I was for my existing contract. So why not just upgrade me, sign me up for another 18 months on the same 35ppm price plan plus my data pack etc.
"No, nothing we can do... yes it's crazy but nothing we can do" said the sales droid.
So I agreed to take the new contract, it annoyed me because it just seemed like they were making it difficult for the sake of it. Anyway, desperately needing the new phone I went for it.
The next day a shiny new P990 and new sim card arrive at my office, but the sim is invalid. So, called up 191 using my old sim, the girl at customer service says that the new card needs to be registered and that she needed the number off the sim. Gave her that, and just at the second she tells me to test the new sim my call gets cut. Didn't think anything of it, tested my new sim which worked. Chucked my old sim and phone into a cupboard and I was away. A little later that day my new phone started ringing, which was confusing since I hadnt given the new number out. Anyway, after checking it out, it seemed like they had moved my existing number onto the new sim card, fantastic... Couldn't be happier.
All has been well up until today, I wanted to check that all of my activesync traffic hadn't cost me a fortune so I rang voda to check a few things out. Only this time, the CS staff at voda notice something strange about the account, there are two numbers assigned to the new sim card but only one is active. I said that was fine because I didnt want to change numbers anyway to which she replied "if you dont want to change numbers then you have to send the phone back to us". Surely it makes no odds to vodafone if they put my new number onto my old sim for the 6 months it has left to run and just leave the old number on my new sim. Apparently they "cant do this due to technical restrictions", and "having two numbers on the sim will mean that they will both deactivate in one hour and the sim will be dead"
Well I am now waiting for her manager to call me back. I know it might all sound a bit petty but it really winds me up, they will still get paid for both contracts until they both expire... why cant they just leave the numbers swapped, after all... they were the ones that swapped the number onto the new sim in the first place.
If they make me swap the numbers back i think i'll tell them to stick it, I'll cancel the new contract, ride the old one out and move to another provider. They stand to be at a loss of at least 350 pounds if I do that, all for the sake of swapping two numbers and yet I know already that they wont back down.
Makes me so mad. Ayone got any suggestions on persuading them to leave things as they are?
Thanks
