Just some useful information for someone. I am currently sat near Fox Cove on the North Cornwall coast about 4 miles south of Padstow. Street check says no, map of coverage says no - Reality say UTMS with 4 bars with four flashing blue lights (HSDPA).

Good for you. Unfortunately I know the opposite can also be the case. IMHO street checker is just a marketing gimmick.

if your right on the coast, that explains it.

RF travels much further over water... youre probably getting coverage from a site miles away.

street check and shop/internet coverage maps show computer produced predictions of what the coverage should look like taking into account topography, free space pathloss and clutter.

they then limit this for the shop maps so in theory you only see 'good' coverage.

as you have proven, its not an exact science....

What sort of handset are you using ? I thought the only handsets which told you if you had HSDPA were Samsung ?

old bill,

Using the Web N Walk Compact II Data Card on a Vaio Laptop. The lights are on the side of the data card.

It says on the website that the coverage checker is only a computer prediction, however, if you check your postcode and it says you have coverage when you dont, u have grounds to take the phone back to the shop and get a refund!

I have to say tho that tmobile were well known for rubbish coverage, it only seems to be getting better :)
