A problem with the 1571 Text Alerts system that BT's website fails to point out at this date (7/6/07) is that if you have retained your mobile phone number and transfered it from another provider to Virgin, the text alert sytem will simply not work. I'm told by BT that the same applies to T-mobile customers.
In other words, you may have messages on your landline, but you will not be texted to inform you of the fact.
BT confirmed this to me today. So if you have ported your number to T-Mobile, the text alert system is virtually useless. As a result, you have a choice:. You can either cancel your mobile contract (expensive!) or change your number (which you didn't want to do in the first place!).
This is not shown on their website, nor on any communications I have had from them. Good old BT eh?
