I have been a Vodafone customer for approximately nine years. During this time I have recommended Vodafone to friends and family as I have always been pleased with their service.

I currently have an "Extras Pack" on my price plan (as I have had for many years) which allows me to use upto £60 worth of texts at 12p per text, or £60 worth of GPRS at £2.35mb, or any combination of texts / GPRS to the value of £60 and I will pay the same amount each months providing I don't go over.

As of 1st June '07, Vodafone are introducing new charges for GPRS. Although the new charges are cheaper per mb, they will no longer be taken from my extras pack. This means I will now have to pay 50% extra each month if I want to use GPRS in the same way I have done for years.

I contacted customer care via the Vodafone website to find out if any monthly type value packs would be available for me to change to. The response from customer care was very poor. After four emails I was referred to my local Vodafone store. The staff at the Vodafone store were understanding and they told me there would not be any monthly packs available for GPRS. The store said I should phone customer services and explain my concerns, so I did. A 20 min phone call resulted in me being told that someone would call me back within 48 hours. That was over 120 hours ago. I think I was fobbed off.

I have not gone into too much detail at the risk of droning on, but would be happy to explain further anything which I may not have made clear (especially to any Vodafone staff who could possibly help).

Before the new charges were anounced I had recently signed up to a further 18mth contract. Having read the t&c's I believe I may now termainate this contract under clause 8 (a. This is what I now hope to do.

Can anyone offer advice or share similar experiences?

Ahhhh has all the hallmarks of the MMS/Txt allowance debacle... They are ( I believe) within their rights to change as long as they give 30 days notice. Bummer if you are on a 18 monther tho.

Yes, Voda did the same thing with MMS on the extras pack.

Here's the parts of Voda's t&c's which are of interest to me:

7) Variation of Charges & Terms
a) We reserve the right to increase/decrease our charges from time to time and/or introduce new charges from time to time. If we increase/decrease our charges, we will give you at least 14 days' prior notice.

8) Ending of this Agreement
a) You may end this Agreement immediately by writing to us if:-
i) we increase in the United Kingdom and under clause 7a, call or other usage charges which have the effect of increasing your call or other usage charges by more than 10% or the increase in RPI calculated as in 8a above (which ever is the greater) based upon your previous call or usage pattern;

Hi,

I work for Vodafone. Sorry to hear of any confusion caused about new GPRS packs and also the failed call backs. Vodafone will be releasing a new data package as of 1st June 2007 on top of the new pricing structure. Details of the new pack haven't been announced officially yet but can be expected on the Vodafone website shortly (below), especially now we're in the second half of May. The pack is aimed towards giving better value for money than the highest previous Extras pack (£40.00 which could be used as a breakdown of 1000 texts or 51.0MB of data).

Regarding the failed call backs, again, I'm sorry to hear about that. If you wanted to contact us again in future after you've had a chance to review the new data packs (June 2007) then it's possible to contact a web-team at Vodafone who take on board customer feedback from public forums and websites. To get in touch with us please go to the below link, filling in the relevant fields and leaving the short code FIT135 in the email body to route you through to our department.

Hi,

Can Bobbyblue please contact me at chut@dsl.pipex.com

I'm in exactly the same boat in terms of how I'm going to be affected by the changes. Just wondering what (if any) response you've had from Vodafone and proposed actions.

Please can you drop me a line.
