I took out a new T-Mobile contract 2 weeks ago but have found that I cannot always get a signal at home even though the website indicated before I bought the new phone that reception was good. What is the legal position if wanted to cancel my contract with them now because of this and then revert back to Vodafone where recption at home was always ok?

You get 2 weeks to return due to bad signal but then you are stuck with it. I had the same problem.

I took out a Samsung Z560 and got 0-1 signal so i took back and swaped for a Vario2.

Got called away on work for 3 weeks of a month and took a P990 with my 3 SIM as i was not getting very good T-Mobile coverage dispite the map saying i do.

Problem was by the time i got back i had passed the 14 day period. However i am happy i did now because i get a sweet deal from T-Mobile.

£42.50 a month for £180 of use and 3GB HSDPA data (Flext35+Web n Walk Plus)... i also phoned up and asked about the May Promotion where you get free unlimited calls evenings and weekeneds to landlines and mobiles (i took my contract out in January).

Lady on the phone added it to my account!..... phoned up CS to confirm it was on there to be told the lady should NOT have added it as it was not a new connection.... they cant take it off now but just to consider myself VERY lucky lol

Firstly was streetcheck carried out instore when you took the contract. if so simply return this and your receipt and the phone complete to the store who should cancel the contract for you. Be aware you'll be charged for any calls/texts made. There maybe an issue if you're outside the 2 week returns policy, but the manager can use his/hers discretion. Please note streetcheck only covers outside due to the nature of the structure of buildings, trees and other factors which can affect the signal indoors. failing that you can always dangle from a 1st floor window (at your own risk)

The street check tool they use, is just a simplified cut down version of the propagation modeling tool we use to design and build the network.

there will be some allowance in there for building penetration, but it will be generalised (ie, allowing 7db or 1 visible bar for a suburban environment) but it certainly couldnt be used in a court of law, as the modeling tool, model, tuning, height and clutter weighting maps cost millions and take many years to be realistic and nobody except the operators has a good one.

also, there is no one person who is responsible for it as they are tuned to individual frequencies, environments, operators and all done by hundreds of people over the life of the tool.

best bet is dont read any of this, and just take the phone back in the first 2 weeks :)

i left t mobile because of the poor coverage were i live i was forever getting a text for missed calls. or voicemail messages even though my phone is always turned on. so i went with 3 yes 3 and upto now were ever i have been i have had excellent 3g,or good 2.5g signal and no more missed calls.

I am with you there..... i get sent phones to test from manufacturers (Just had a Nokia N76 come in) and i put my T-Mobile sim in and i get 1 bar 2G at best.

Stick my 3 USIM in and im on full 3G straight away!. Even though i do get a good deal on T-Mobile what good is it when you get no signal to use the things on!.

Just put my 3 SIM back in and am contacting T-Mobile to lower my account to £18 a month and will pay it off.

1 thing i have to say (and was dissapointing) was on Streetcheck it says i get Good 2G and Good 3G.

Yet when i phone CS and say i get bad signal i get told there internal coverage checker says i get Poor 2G and Poor 3G. Now if i had known that before joining i would have not bothered. Don't get me wrong the service is good and the costs are cheap but coverage is just shocking. I heard they had 65% 3G signal but that was due to be 80% very soon so i thought i could get better coverage.

Now they say its hit 80% 3G and im still no better off :(
