I have just been told that on any new contracts it is not possible to change to a cheaper tariff for the duration of the contract - is this true?

As far as i know you can change to a lower tariff on month 6 of a 12 month contract and month 12 of an 18, although i no longer work for the company that was my understanding of a tariff change

Hey guys!! As of May 1st T Mobile has changed the policy so now you have to wait for month 11 for both 12 and 18 Month contracts and I think its stupid as I think they said in the flext promotion that they check your bill every 6 months so I swear they are not living up to there tariff values! I work for T Mobile Retail and I am sure we will deal with a few irate customers come next few weeks like 3 did when they changed! I think its pure going backwards!!
Someone told me you cant change at all

There was a t-info about this today. It even affects people on friends and family.

Yup, had it confirmed in a call - you can not change to a cheaper tariff during your contract anymore.
However this doesn't apply if you are upgrading an existing contract, although I am not utterly convinced the person I was speaking too had that right.

Another stunt to deceive the customer, well done t-mobile. It seems apparent that this company is going backwards, well all i can say is the competition is hotting up so t-mobile will be the first network to face financial ruin!

They're trying to improve the ARPU and give the best deals on phones possible. Downgrading contracts after the first few months will result in TMUK making a loss over the lifetime of a customer if they choose certain top end phones. It simply isn't financially viable.
Personally, i'd like to pick a contract i can afford, with the best phone i can afford on that contract. I don't want to have to pick a lesser phone because of the people who buy a bigger contract knowing full well they will downgrade it after 3 months, forcing t-mobile to raise phone prices to compensate.

Agreed - it's not as if their phones are overpriced compared to the competition. I think the whole industry is going to go this way. The only other realistic option is too charge a one off fee for dropping tarrif.

There are exceptions to the downward migration ban until month 12, one of them being if the best plan checkup writes to you and says you should downgrade.

If you sign up with web and walk with flext 35, does the changes mean you can't drop it and still continue with that initial price plan minus W&W?

i'm waiting to go on the staff plan, i've just bought a n95 does this mean i have to wait until the 11th month to go on the staff plan or can i go on it from the 3re month

You can get the 'staff plan' (I'm assuming you mean the friends and relations discount) at any stage.
Anyway, the 11 month migration rule is discretionary. If you were told previously that you could downgrade earlier than the 11th month stage then we have to honour it, although the agent you speak to might need a bit of persuading.
