I received a text message from orange asking me to take part in a voice to text trial. I wondered if any one else had been asked and will be taking part. We can discus the trial ups and downs, benefits or not etc here.

The details of the trial are

We are trialling a new service, powered by a third party company called SpinVox, that can convert your Answer Phone messages to text messages and then send them to your mobile phone and, if you want, your e-mail account too.

And, just like your current Answer Phone, you can personalise it with your own message that callers will hear.

It’s simple, practical and convenient – you can see who called you and exactly what they said – wherever you are!

That means no more:

1. dialling in to listen to your voicemail messages
2. scribbling down names, numbers and notes
3. replaying messages to make sure that you’ve got all the details right
4. And, you can always listen to the original voicemail message if you want to.

The way the trial works is easy. You get to try this great service for three months and in return, all we ask is that you tell us what you think of it by completing two surveys that we’ll e-mail to you

FEATURES

User-friendly voicemail

just like your current Orange voicemail, you can manage many of your settings from your mobile phone. You can personalise your greeting and dial in to listen to any voicemails that you want to hear and you can delete them when you’ve finished with them. Your voicemails will automatically be stored for you for up to 90 days
Message notification

sometimes if there is a lot of back ground noise, it may not be possible to convert one of your voicemails to text. If this happens, you will be sent a text message informing you and you can then dial-up and listen to the message yourself
Quick access to voicemails

each voicemail that you receive as a text message will be given a Quick-Link™ number. If you need to listen to the voicemail you can simply dial in to your SpinVox voicemail and enter the link e.g. *12 and you can jump straight to the message you want to hear – no need to scroll through the previous ones
Access from any phone

if you don’t have your mobile phone with you, you can still access your voicemail messages from any other phone. Simply dial your voicemail number and enter your PIN (which we’ll send you when you sign up for the trial)
Flexibility at your fingertips

choose when to have voicemail to text conversion on. You can set it to convert voicemail messages during work hours only (8am to 8pm)
choose from 30 seconds to 3 minute message recording time

Here is a link to the trial, where it gives you the opputunity to sign up, even if orange have not sent you a text.

I remember having a play with something similar over five years ago. Looks like they may have revived it. Mine converted them to email rather than SMS. Let's face it the average voice message will take more than one text. - And what will be the charge for them me wonders.

Yes very true, but if it's free to do the trial I may as well go see what it's like lol:D

The email version did quite well.
Now if we could only have Wildfire back - she had a really sexy voice.

WILDFIRE RULES! I heard rumblings that she was available again but alas only for Orange employees! Is this correct?

Some business contracts have Wildfire
Mind you, most of the people I know that once had it have jumped ship to other networks

Just got a call off quite a nice sounding woman from spinvox, she gave me the divert code to put in, just tried it with the obvious words you would try and it did quite well.

Had to change my voicemail number manually though (under tools, call mailbox. on N95) . so it now works off #1 key shortcut.

We'll see how it works when i get a massive voicemail off my manager.

The only problem I have noticed is I use a call/sms blocker on my phone. If I block withheld texts the text goes straight to my deleted box.

I recently left 3 and you had the option as a customer of spinvox for a while now. To be honest from what I read it's not something I would like to have.

Now WildFire I had that but of course I lost that when I fell out with Orange and cancelled my contract I had at the time I lost that. I was just remembering about wildfire yesterday and wondered if she was available as an option these days. Sad to hear she isnt. I trying to remember some of the humourous you could make her say she would moo like a cow, if you told her you were bored she would say "I live in a box and dont gete out much how do you think I feel?" and stuff like that.

Ah yes memories, shout Wildfire!! and she would reply yes master, got I must be a sad g*t

If you did the "moo like a cow" routine too often, she'd say "that's boring, here's what a mad cow sounds like".

If I remember rightly, one of the random quotes for "I'm depressed" was "When I'm depressed, I dig out my William Shatner records", then you'd get a burst of yer actual Captain Kirk murdering "Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds"

I've never been an Orange customer but I remember reading about the service and Wildfire communications before Orange borged them.

Think it was the subject of one of their TV ad campaigns too wasn't it.

Remember reading in the technical docs that the software could support something like 1000 simultaneous sessions while running on a Pentium 100 Mhz server, respect to the developers!

From what I heard on the demos 'she' did have a rather nice voice.

Think it was also used as one of the main interfaces for the at home project, that was an amazing idea I thought.
