Can anybody help me I have had a number for about 10 years which was heavily advertised in yelllow pages and now its been cancelled due to not making an outgoing call, I have rang customer services who tell me that I cannot have my number back , I was then told to take a business card to a vodafone shop and fax it to a number thay gave me without an area code which was no use to the vodafone shop assistant who then rang up the pay as u go dept who told him its too late the number has gone to the scrapp yard or something similar. surely something can be done.any help apreciated, the phone was on 24 hours a day and received calls, they could have texted me warning me off disconnection imminant.

Contact customer relations. They should be able to help you out. That is completely not acceptable, if they had give you warning, then fair enough.

If you dont make at leastone call every 6 months then they will discontinue service, im afraid its states in terms for each network, and once you lose number is gone

Sorry to hear the problems you've had there. As mentioned by customer services and also Mr_T, it is stated in the terms and conditions that a pay as you talk number will be disconnected after a 180 day period of non-use. These numbers will then be recycled and attached to new SIM cards after a certain period of time (mainly to keep the number of non-active SIMs and phone numbers down on the network. Working for Vodafone I could see if there's anything we can do for you if you wanted to send us an email (contact details below). My only worry is if the number may have already been designated to a new SIM card / customer, therefore no longer being available. If you want our team to double check this out you could always drop us an email by going to www.vodafone.co.uk, selecting 'contact us' then email, leaving the short code FIT135 in the email body.

thanks for your help GC27VF I have emailed customer services with the fit132 in the body like you suggested, If the number is given to anyone else they will be getting calls for me , which would be totally unfair on them and wouldnt impress my customers still having that contact number.I have copies of adverts if with the number in
I cannot see how the number could have been re allocated as it was only disconnected 3 days ago and its been receiving calls and switched on 24 hours a day for years.
thanks again GC27VF

Hi Banjo

Had similar issue and its only my opinion im posting.

The canceling of PAYG sims with no outbound activitty in a certain timescale is industry standard in the UK. What gets me is my PAYG account was registered, i would recieve numerous mailings about products and services, several calls asking to move to a contract phone and most of all texts messages advising on different promos and services.

The effort put in by voda to make me aware of there services so i didnt miss out was excellent.

But not a solitary simple call or text to let me know that my payg number will soon be cancelled.

I do think in your case the time period for the number to be re issued is wrong, and that the networks STILL generate revenue from inbound calls.

Not so with Vodafone - I was charged for 17 months unknowingly without making one call or sending one text....!!!!

Hi banjoboy

Your number will keep working as long as you remember the call every 90 days, I think the emails from Customer Service may just be a back log problem. So just ignore them.

Same here, "Have had mine for 18 years as an emergency phone world wide"
Was never even told to Keep my cell on all the time, just turned it on periodically. Somebody from vodafone ( long distance at my expense) told me the same as you 29/04/08 . I think I even had 60 pound still on it. I no I had some money on it. I've rang my number and its engaged. They tell me "they don't no where my number is" or even if I can have that number back.
Not very happy with a service. We as International roamers pay the highest price in the world for a Vodafone cell call.
Same here any help much apreciated

Hello awhizz.

If you could click on this link (https://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Page_Help_ContactUs&pageID=PCU_0002) for me, fill in as much detail as possible, and also include the code FIT135 into the body of the message. This will route your query to the Vodafone Forum Intervention Team. As soon as we get your message we will check your details and discuss the situation with you.

With regards to the money left on your account, at the point of disconnection all online records pertaining to the number are erased. This means that we would no longer be able to see how much money was left prior to disconnection. Despite this fact we will discuss the situation with you upon contact and come to an agreement.

I hope this is satisfactory for you!
