So, we are all nearly ready to get our n95s, some will go sim free, some from a network.
For those that have the network ones (and im thinking orange, if they have the homescreen) will you be changing the prod code and reflashing with generic?

I was just thinking of the orange homescreen and was going to bring it up in the N95 on Orange thread. I believe it is now possible to turn the homescreen off. (I hope someone can confirm that)
I may consider debranding the phone once new firmware comes out.
But, I think new Orange phones come with quite a cool rollercoaster screensaver. (I am also obsessed with theme parks, as well as phones ;) lol) so that would be a good addition that Orange make to the phone. But if its stable, even with their software I would leave it.
Unfortunately i'm not going to be one of the first with the phone, as Orange seems to consider new customers more worthy for a new phone than upgrades :dead:

I am seriously thinking buying sim free. I have e mailed a local independant retailer who also have a Nokia service centre in their shop. I will see whay their reply is and ask them to pre order from them.

Hmmm- care to disclose which one? I was looking for someone who could give me a decent price for a Tmobile contract. CPW are ouchie expensive. Even if Adam in Truro does have lovely eyes.

On the N70 with the latest firmware you can turn off the home screen, until you turn the phone off. when you turn the phone back on, you have to go back into the settings to turn it off again.

I have moved my orange number from contract to payg, by the time the N95 comes out orange I can then move my number back onto contract on the new customer offers.

Had use for 2 weeks before it went back to Nokia as it was a beta test.
They sent me out a thank you box containing a N95, Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Headset and a Audio Sender in a special box and that is for me to keep.
If you check over at www.darlamack.com she also got 1 but VERY limited edition in PINK!.
I have to say the N95 is a really great phone in pretty much every way. Its smaller and lighter than the N73 but has more features than i can even think of naming.
GPS works great although is a bit of a battery drainer. Camera is really good... just everything is really well put together.
Should be the phone of the year as long as networks don't butcher it with customisations too much

I've had one for about a month now! Dubious at first, but very nice handset. Functionality is brilliant. GPS works better than expected but the slide has to be open to get best sensitivity. WLAN works well, but both WLAN and GPS are battery drainers. Sound quality is great, and the contrast of the screen is brilliant. I think this will impress the majority of you. It's very well built.

A quick question to you. On my N95 the satnav wonn't follow me around properly. It'll get a fix no problem but if I then drive up the road there is a 30 second lag between where I am and it catching up. Do you get this?
Actually, make it 2 questions. On the screen that shows the satellites it has found, sometimes the bars are black and sometimes clear. Any ideas what this means?

When a bar is black, it means it has locked onto that satellite. When there are bars, but they are only an outline, not solid black, this means that it can see the satellite but has not locked. 3 are required to get a 2D position, 4 to get 3D. However, the more you have locked, the better the accuracy. I think only 5 or 6 bars can be shown in the satellite status screen.
I used mine on a plane the other day, was most impressive! 854km/hr at 11,500 Meters!!
