Hi,
As the N95 will have applications that require downloads (updating maps, email, browsing and so on) I would like a tarrif that would be inclusive of this.
Voda has a very poor reception where I work sa is a no go for me.
3 have reveled they will not have the N95
Orange has unlimited evening + weekends for £5 (not good for me, i need data whenever), and the possibility of unlimited for £8 - but only for high usage customers.
02 data tarrifs... Make me larf!!!
So that leaves T-mob with Web and walk.
I have been trialling a PAYG (data access capped at £1 per day)and to be honest, Im impressed.
Good call quality, good 3g coverage (for my area).
So it seems my logical choice is either a Web/walk pay monthly or even a sim free n95 and Stay PAYG.
The T-mob website doesnt have a comming soon sectio like orang and o2, but i did email them and it is coming "soon".
Quote t-mobile email...
"I noticed from your email that you're looking for the Nokia N95.
I've loooked into the range of phones that we have available and I pleased to say we'll be launching the N95, all we're waiting for is the release date to be confirmed."
Post up your N95 tmobile news here.

I have one on order with a supplier original with Web and Walk. Im changing this now to Web and Walk Plus as it seems you need this to get HSDPA speeds, plus you can then legitimitely use your phone for IM, streaming, as a modem etc.
Best deal I've seen for this on 12 months is here:
http://www.ukphoneshop.com/T-Mobile/contract/mobile-phones/Nokia-N95/2119/index.html
Its the £47.50 a month tarrif and the phone will cost you £90.
If you want to pay less a month on calls you could get any FlexT package and then ring Tmobile up after to get Web and Walk put on.
Note that after 6 months you can also change your package so its worth working out whether paying more a month is better with the phone cost overall.

Thanks for posting.
Do you know if it will be branded as Tmobile, or as it is one of the first a generic one with a t mob cantract sim?

My Vario II gets HSDPA speeds in many locations around Liverpool and that's on £7.50 WebnWalk

Interesting ... Im guessing TMobile must hide the fact from potential customers so they buy the Plus package.
What about IM/streaming on this package though (obviously using it as a modem on the low end package takes the p1$$ but I don't think it would for im/streaming)?

Will there be any difference in my contract if i order through a 3rd party like phoneshopuk.com to one that is straight from t-mob?
For example, will i be able to log onto my t-mob and see my online bill?

I've been looking at getting a phone on T mobile through CPW - does it make any difference? They certainly think it will be available on Tmob as soon as it's released. I too reckoned I don't want a 3g phone on a £1/mb tariff.

Your contract for phone services will be with TMobile, phoneshopuk etc are just making a commission by selling it.

No difference really, though I would avoid CPW as there prices for the N95 are very high compared to others.

Don't use IM, but I've done a little streaming. GPRS software showed 135kbps which is not the top end but about 4 times as fast as the standard 3G rate I get

I had a look at an N95 dummy in a T Mobile store today, and the guy mentioned a release date of first week in April so they are definitely going to sell the phone it would seem.
It will almost certainly be branded and locked to T Mob though, I was speaking to a chap in the local Nokia store today and he said even they are only supplying T Mob branded units rather than unbranded ones like they will with Vodafone contracts, because T Mobile don't mess around with the software too much evidently.
Regarding the tariffs, can you drop to a lower tariff after 6 months (of an 18 month contract), or will they only let you increase? I was planning on a Flext 25 with Web/Walk because thats all I'll use, but if I can lower it after 6 months then the higher price contracts may work out cheaper than paying more upfront for the phone. ;)

Ahh not the full speed Im thinking of then.
If you get pro you can get right up to 1.8mbps on the N95 as you get HSDPA as well as 3G (unless you've had HSDOA on the normal WnW?)(3G-348kbps/HSDPA-1.8Mbps)

From what I can tell, you can go up at any time but only down after 6 months.

From TMobile FAQs:
Can I change my price plan? (personal customers only)
If you're a pay monthly customer, you can move free of charge once a month, with effect from your next bill. You'll just need to have been with us for at least six months if moving to a cheaper plan.

1.8Mbps is the theoretical max at the moment. In reality you will often get less. My 1.35Mbps is probably going to be around the sort of practical figure. As you state basic 3G is 340 but I note that speeds around 260 seem to be average

There is definatly conflicing information on the N95 with 3.
Personally i just think they HAVE to sell it but just not brand as much as they hoped.
With all other networks selling the N95 they would be silly to miss out and would loose a fortune.
I have still heard the N95 is coming out on 3 mid april time but have also beeen told by someone else that it failed testing and has been taken off the system.
However there is a huge thing about the N95 and X-Series so there again it looks like the phone is due.
Either way we should all find out in a few days when the update to the interal system goes online talking about the plans for April.
From my own point of view i think 3 will sell the N95 by May of this year

I have just had a chat with a mate who works with 3 and he did express sincere doubts about the N95 arriving on 3 due to severe software issues. Aparently their software customisations are not going down all that well.

I completely agree! If I end up paying over £100 for my phone through Vodafone, I won't be happy if they have raped it! My w900i has crappy icon instead of the IMO much nicer ones it was designed to have. I don't mind an extra icon or two but changing the whole phone from what the designers intended is pretty annoying and if I am getting all of this forced on me I expect to be rewarded(ie free phone ;))

I think we will all know when April comes.
On the Three website when browsing for accessories you can see the ones available for the N95. This proves they were getting it, if this gets taken off int he next few weeks, I guess we will have our answer.

Just posting up the latest email from harrasing t-mobile about the n95...
"Hello Paul
Thanks for your email about a further update on the release date and price for the N95 on the Flext tariffs.
I can understand the importance of getting this phone as it's quality is fantastic and will be a brilliant handset to show off to friends and family.
I can see from our current range that there has been no further updates since the last time we contacted you and we're still waiting for the release date and price of this phone.
As soon as the phone is available you'll be able to view it from the website from www.t-mobile.co.uk and will be able to put your order in.
Thanks again for contacting us Paul and if you've any further questions please reply to my email and I'll be happy to help you further.
Kind regards

I spoke to store managers at Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone today and they all said the same thing- even on a £30 a month tariff you will be paying around 150- £200 for the phone no question (offline Vodafone stated that it will cost £500 which is on par with the 8800 SE), in the case of Orange and T-Mobile that price was quoted for a £50 a month tariff- although they admitted that in T-Mobile's case this came from a meeting with the head offices at T-Mobile a few weeks ago- so I suspect that this will come down to same level as all other networks- so people can then make the choice on network preference/loyalty rather than price- they are really competing by the looks of this for people to switch or stay when taking up the N95- this is a HUGE release for all three networks (other than O2- who are still coy with the mid-April release date)
A good comparison on price from Vodafone is that if you look at the N93's original release (was it originally out on there?) it will be around the same price at launch for the N95- which the other will almost definately come around to i.e. unavailable for <30 a month 30 < 50 £200 > 50 £50. With respect to Vodafone- all pre-orders will be satisfied however stores have been told not to expect any additional stock- therefore all store stock will be dictated by the numbers of pre-orders they will take.
Speaking of release date- T-Mobile have confirmed that the release date will be the same day (they do have handsets in the pipeline now and will ship to stores immediately once they know when Voda and Orange will ship) and according to both Orange and Voda this looks very likely (although obviously not confirmed) to be between April 5th and April 6th.
However, from what I hear (although not confirmed) pretty much confirms what was previously said about 3- major firmware/software issues have pretty much blown the Three release of the phone- therefore they are trying to plug the E65 as the low cost alternative to the N95.

I spoke to Vodafone today and they said no matter how much you spend, an upgrade will be expensive. I asked if it would be better starting a new contract and they said yes and it would be free. There is a huge poster in the window stating that ALL phones are free on a £35 and upwards contract, the small print at the bottom of the poster said *subject to an 18month contract.
Was the guy and the poster wrong? Will they still expect £100-£200 when a person starts a new contract? It is pretty crappy that they treat new customers better than exsisting ones, especially when people like me spend a lot of money a month with them, when a new user may only spend £35!
Damo0001
25-03-2007, 07:47 AM
That's the same as any network had done previously- they would put most of their resources into encouraging new customers to the network to increase consumer base rather than existing customers to stay- although it is slowly changing- with O2 giving existing customers the same benefits as new ones do. I would expect that you might see the £35 or above deal disappear on/before the N95 is released with Voda- otherwise they would not make a huge amount of money on the N95, whereas you're looking at a 35-40% profit on the phones if the free for £35 deal was still in effect- such is the interest in the handset.
Gamst
25-03-2007, 01:51 PM
I think you are right, according to websites, even starting a new contract, you need to be on a high tariff to get the phone down to a reasonable price. On release day I'll goto to the shop and ask them what deal they can do me on an upgrade, I'll even increase my tariff, with extra texts etc. If they can't get me an upgrade on a 12 month contract, below £100 I'll ask about an 18 month contract, if that is still pricey I'll ask them about starting a new contract.
The sales guy I spoke to on the phone last week at Voda, reckoned it'd be £75-100 on an upgrade, 18 month contract.
Thinking about it though, if I end up getting an expensive tariff, say £70 a month and paying say £60 for the phone that would work out as around £900. If I paid £200 on a 12 month contract at £35 a month, that would be £620 for the year. So I am thinking I'll ask how much for a 12 month upgrade on my current plan and then how much for a 12 month on a cnew contract. Paying a bit for the phone now will save money, I guess it's just the ntwork trying to con you a little bit more.

Buy an unbranded N95 from a Nokia shop.
Sell your old handset on ebay.
Pay off the remainder on your credit card over the course of a year.
Job done: costs less and no stupid network meddling with the software (and subsequent waiting for firmware updates).
Move to the cheapest tariff with 'unlimited' data and enjoy.

Although there's the obvious advantage of the unbranded phone and Im sure it works out for some, Im not sure it necessarily works out cheapest for a lot of people though?
For example, I looked at doing the same but I need either Flext25 on an 18 month contract, or Flext35 on a 12 month contract (due to less minutes on 12 month deals), plus Web & Walk.
If I purchased a non branded phone thats going to cost ~£500, then if I take out the Flext 25 18 month contract I might get a free phone that's Ebay-able for say £100-150, and I can sell my existing N70 for ~£80, so thats around £300 still to pay off the credit card plus £32.50 a month for an 18 month contract, or £42.50 for a 12 month contract.
If I buy my N95 on Flext35 + Web/Walk for 18 months with the phone costing me £80 and monthly line rental of £42.50, I can still sell my old N70 for £80 so that leaves me oweing nothing, and although Im paying an additional tenner per month, I can always switch to Flext25 after 6 months anyway to bring the monthly cost back down to £32.50, inline with the above.

I always threaten to leave at the end of contracts and you'll be suprised what you get offered. I've had better offers renewing my contract than sometimes signing up as a new customer. I just look out for the best deal and if renewing my contract doesn't provide that, I just terminate it and sign on as a "new customer". You can always go on contract with the same network if you like that.
I'll give you an example about 2 years ago I was on the VideoTalk 500 tarriff 500 crossx minutes on '3' for £25 per month. They wouldn't offer me anything on upgrade that was worth looking at so I threatened to leave them. I was shortly offerred the new Nokia 6280 (latest model at the time) and the same VT500 with 12 months 1/2 price after some bargaining, telling CS offers made wasn't near anything I could get elsewhere. I sold the 6280 on eBay for £200 and only paid £12.50 per month for the entire 12 month contract. £12.50 x 12 = £150... Yes that's right It cost me nothing for the whole 12 months because I sold the phone for £200 and with so many free minutes that I use on average every month. They were actually paying me to use their network...

Hmm. It sounds like T-mobile's release date isn't next Monday after all. I phoned e2save and ordered my N95 on T-Mobile and while they've got the N95 in stock and ready to ship from Monday 2nd, T-Mobile phones won't be ready to ship until later on in the week, maybe Thursday or even Friday

Grr, I spoke to e2save this morning and they said it should ship today, no issue with it being t-mobile instead of o2 (I specifically asked). But my order tracking shows not in stock, so you are probably correct.
I don't like waiting... wouldn't have ordered early if they hadn't said they would deliver by friday during the order process, so don't like being misinformed by them either.... me thinks a small complaint might be warranted if it isn't shipped this week.

I find myself in a very good position, Ill be going for a tmobile N95, but dont have to get it till June when the maelstrom has subsided, the firmware has been updated and perhaps Voda/orange/o2 have come up with a competitive offering to WNWplus. I will have a flat in london and Halifax, I am curretbly in Dublin, i dont want to pay for broadband twice, and this is the perfect solution (i dont bittorent these days) But it is interesting to see the climate of commercialism that has surrounded this phone - it makes calls and texts right ? :)

The cheapest deal I could get through retentions, on any price plan, was £125.
I think I'm gonna leave it a few weeks and wait for the price to drop and hopefully by then any bugs should have been ironed out too.

Apparently one or the other should be updated within the hour. Lets hope its the phone prices going down to the web prices not vice versa!.

Just cancelled my order with mobileshop.com and gone direct with TMobile:
Handset Price: £39.99 + £5.99 delivery
Tarrif: Flext 35 + Web n Walk Plus
Tarrif Cost: £42.50 per month/18 months
The £9.99/£19.99 costs on the website were mistakes and should now be rectified :(
Good news for people wanting the phone, stock status was 1200!
Mine will be sent out today, hopefully get it tomorrow (no guarentees) or by Monday latest.

I might be wrong here, sombody who knows more about consumer legislation can probably fill in with more confidence, but if you have purchased something at an advertised price, and received accetance of the order this consitutes a contract between a buyer and seller. They cant go back on that redily.
Anybody know any better?

I've just spoken to them - and because the order hadn't been confirmed, and the price was wrong they've readjusted the price now - for the Flext 35 Web'n'Walk the phone price is £69.99 :( oh well!

Hi all,
I've been following the pre-release news here with growing excitment. It feels like christmas today.
Called t-mobile this morning and was told they had the phone but hadn't set the price yet, so call back later. Had also been checking on the website every few minutes.
I could hardly contain my excitment when I finally saw it on their site. Got it on a (discounted) £27.50 pm flext 25 web'n'walk 18 month contract for what turned out to be an unbelievable £59.99!
Got my confirmation email through before they spotted their mistake (its now £189.99 on the same tariff) so fingers crossed they will honour their contract and I will get my phone tomorrow.

A quick note btw.
You can't order Web n Walk Plus it seems online so you need to ring up.
When I did ring up, I asked if it was possible to go to Web n Walk Plus if you just had normal Web n Walk. The advisor said you couldn't and you would have to wait 6 months to change.
Might have been fed a line but thought it would be worth repeating just in case as you will want Web n Walk plus if you want HSDPA and to use IM, streaming media, phone as a modem etc legtimiately.

Hi barbicanlad - no they won't honour it as it's not a proper confirmation (the first email) so they will call you up and say that it isn't the right price and you will need to pay the additional...
I had gone for £19.99 Flext 35 but they phoned and said that the price was wrong and it's actually £69.99...

hi bcurr
I just asked them the same question and the answer was that you could upgrade to web'n'walk plus at any time for an extra £5 pm. And also, the sales rep confirmed that you can get HSDPA on the normal web'n'walk.

They say that to cover themselves as some areas don't deliver special delivery on a saturday - but where I am in Bristol they do special deliveries on saturday's so it'll be delivered tomorrow :)

BurnBaby,
My confirmation from T-Mobile says
"Your order will be delivered on Monday before 1pm (Royal Mail may attempt
delivery tomorrow but a weekend delivery cannot be guaranteed). "
so here's hoping Royal Mail deliver. I live in central London so I hope they do. I might burst if I have to wait until Monday. :D

Out of interest what level of customisation (ruination) do t-mobile inflict on their phones? I haven't been with t-mobile since it was one2one and back then nobody did anything.
Particularly concerned about crippling the connectivity options like some operators have been known to do...

Most of us have been waiting 6 months+, and now these next 2 days are going to be the longest for a lot of us. :(
T-Mobile aren't usually too bad in regards to crippling phones, hopefully with this being the first batch too branding will be minimal.

yes lets hope the branding is minimal, but then again it takes only 10 mins to flash it, i just hope they aint put the t-mobile logo on the front of the n95, or ill have to buy a new OEM front cover wen they are out

You say 10 minutes to flash it, but that's assuming there is a new version of the firmware on the NSU. Which is unlikely given that it's just been released, or am I missing a trick

I was told on the phone that delivery should be Saturday assuming Royal Mail do support Special Delivery on Saturday's in your area...which mine does.

It seems the prices has changed on t-mobile website. It seems they are applying £5 discount accross their tariff but when I go to checkout it is displaying a charge of £42.50 instead of £37.50 for Flext 35 + web n walk as advertised in previous pages. It slightly confusing but looking at it in more detail shows there is a £5 discount hidden. The handset cost is £49.99.
I'll order one right now...

I have got a pain from all this waiting I hate it. Wish I could move to t mobile
Went into town today and CPW the had just received one working handset. Had a quick go size and weight seemed tidy - lighter and smaller than my n70 They couldnt advise on cost but said would probably be 200 quid just for the handset and theyd be starting to sell from monday.
got home, saw all the recent posts on forum. Rang t-mobile
asked about renewal advised me handset was 200 quid for upgrade ???
Guided Rep though website to offer below for new customers
Rep said ok well upgrade on that deal :-)
Rep advised will be delivered tomorrow between 8-1 special delivery at a cost of 6 quid
Flext 35 + web 'n' walk (18)
Monthly Allowance £180
Unlimited web surfing and e-mails
£42.50-£5 = £37.50 each month
Handset = £49.99
does anyone knows how to upgrade gps maps to full functionality?
TWD-Tony
30-03-2007, 04:20 PM
You should be able to upgrade via a menu on the handset - via credit / debit card or a charge on your mobile bill (presuming T-Mobile support this?) I think the charge to upgrade is about £50 for 3 years voice navigation and POI:D
Can you phone T-mobile and ask for a Saturday delivery for £6 ????? (picks up phone and dials T-mobile...)
TWD-Tony
30-03-2007, 04:32 PM
UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with a very nice lady at T-mobile... The £6 charge is the standard delivery charge anyway and they CANNOT 100% PROMISE SATURDAY DELIVERY but she did say that depending on Royal Mail it will either be before 1pm Saturday or Monday...
COME ON POSTIE!:D
EDIT: Here are the last prices that I have for the voice upgrade http://www.nokia-n95.net/hot-news/mapping-pricing-announced.html

If you need any internet access it seems t-mobile offers better deals with web n walk. Example. (both have £5 discounts p/m)
Flext 35 (18), £30.00 p/m, handset = £99.99
Flext 35 (18) + web n walk, £37.50 p/m, handset = £49.99.
You save £50 on handset cost and if you divide this by 18 months = £2.77
web n walk now cost £7.50 - £2.77 = £4.73 p/m for unlimited internet access*
Not bad at all!
Thanks for the info TWD-Tony .
Actually It was 5.99 or 5.95 or something. But the rep said it would definately be with me tomorrow morning. Im in Swansea if that makes a difference for saturday deliveries.
Cant wait been waiting for n95 for ages.
Im more than happy with the handset price, I was expecting to have to pay at least 100-150 quid.
Well be nice if it does come tomorrow but, not a problem if it does come monday.
Now all i gotta do is find a buyer for my n70, be even better if i get 50 quid for that :-)

I'm six months into an 18 mth contract with T-Mob, and earlier this afternoon, was told that I could NOT upgrade...!! Said earliest I could upgrade was March 2008. They said they could sell it to me for £355.
Is anyone else in the same boat as me??
[I cant see the benefit of getting a 2nd contract, as that means paying for 2 contracts, and having 2 phone numbers!!!!]
what to do? wtf cant they give existing customers a better deal?????!!!

Pay £355 for the phone if you really want it or see what conract you can get it for free for on then drop it to U-Fix 15 for the next 6 months. You can even rent someone the contract(and current phone) to make back money.

They do offer a 14 day cancellation period though if ordered over the phone (distance selling regulations) as well as their signal guarantee thing, so if you find it doesnt work you can always send it back.
Ive also cancelled a pre-order with One Stop Phone Shop today and gone to T Mobile direct on Flext35 + W&W. To be honest I only really need Flext25 but the phone prices are very high and I decided to shell out the additional monthly for a bigger tariff to keep the phone cost reasonable, so the £5/month saving going direct is as much a draw for me as having the phone a couple of days earlier. I lose out on the free sat nav upgrade now, but the £30 Ive saved plus £5/month off the rental is preferable and I can always try the sat nav for a week upgrade for a few £ to see if its worth having or not.

I am trying to work out the real costings here.
If you choose Flext 25 + W&W Plus = 32.50 on 18month contract, N95=190
If you choose Flext 35 + W&W Plus = 42.50 on 18month contract, N95=50
18month contract prices above include the 5 pounds per month extra
discount.
According to the website, you "may" lose the 5 pounds discount if you down
grade after 6 months. So for the rest of the term, it will be 37.50 if I downgrade after 6 months.
Also, although you can downgrade after 6 months, I could not get a striaght answer if this is effectively 7 months, as they said you cannot downgrade until after 6 months have passed, by which time the earliest billing cycle will be the 7th month.
Therefore although there is 140 pounds difference in price on the handset. You will lose the 5 pounds for 12 months, which is 60. You cannot change for up to 7 months, which is 70. This means you only save 10 pounds by starting on a higher tariff and you have to remember with the hassle of downgrading.
Am I missing something?

Just ring TMobile after 1/2 months and tell them you cant afford to pay that tariff and all you can afford to pay is £25.They will drop it for you.You need to be convincing though.
