Right here a question for you.
I have been with o2 online since 2001. I am on contract. I am thinking of upgrading. My credit record is absolutely horrendous due to some student defaults. If I am credit checked it will be an automatic decline.
Now will they credit check me for an upgrade? I was going to order on the o2 shop website but that looks like a definite credit check. Should I ring the 0870 600 7102 number. Also what is the best Nokia handset at the moment as don’t look like the n93 is avail from o2?

If you are upgrading you need to ring the dedicated upgrades team as per the online shop anyway don't you?

thanks yeah i'm thinking of doing that. as I say if I get credit checked i will be declined will they cut me off my contract? As I don;t want to waste my time ringing if they will credit check. As I say it would be a definate decline as I have defaults from student days

Most companies will go by your credit history with them over what it says in your credit record. So if you've always paid your o2 bills on time (or mostly), then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Of course this is just my experience and I cannot gaurantee what o2 will actually do.

just to advsie order went thru to warehouse without credit check. I have paid bill on time for 6 years as I always kept my genie contract sim. But the free texts are not so much use these days and the off peak 50 minutes is only to other o2's or landlines. Great deal tho- even beat everyday 50 that offer - has saved me a fortune over the years but i guess all tariffs lose appeal eventually

Hey there, I work for 02, just to answer your question-if you upgrade to another tariff and receive a new phone-there will be a credit check. However if you stay on your existing tariff it'll work like a month rolling contract which you can keep till you cancel. There is also the sim only option which has a lower credit criteria because your not taking out a phone.
One other tip- Orange do most credit checks after thier phone has been sent out-daft I know but I have a k800 on orange which I could not activate because I failed the cc so I got a pre pay sim and had it unlocked!

^^^^ this is not true... no credit check for moving tariff, none what so ever! false information.
If you already have an O2 account, Online or Offline, and you have come to the end of your 12 or 18 month contract you are entitled to upgrade your account, long as your bills are paid and no bars on there is NO credit check completed. otherwise this would have to be advised over the phone, which is isn't!
They do not use ANY credit checking when upgrading your excisiting contract, only when you start a BRAND NEW contract will they credit check you.
So if your credit is now so bad that nobody will touch you, then hang onto your O2 contract and keep paying ontime as over time it will repair your credit.
Hope this helps.
