Has anyone got sky boardband and manage to set up there email account on their MDA ?
I was previously with Telewest and had no problem in setting this up but now i'm with sky
I just can't get it to work on my phone, it works on my pc fine.
Email settings
pop.sky.com
smtp.sky.com
As well as the the normal settings : username > password
The error message I receive is ' MESSAGES CANNOT BE DOWNLOADED TO YOUR MOBILE DEVICE. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED AND YOUR INTERNET SETTINGS ARE CORRECT.
THEN TRY TO DOWNLOAD AGAIN.

How long have you been with them?
When I initially joined it took a few weeks for the sky mail to work.
I've heard very bad things abouy sky email (just see the posts at skyuser), so ventured away from it when I joined. I setup a gmail or googlemail account instead. Online webmail is good, spam filters better than yahoo and I have a java app on my Nokia N73. Also you can pop & smtp with googlemail. You can also retreive mail from other pop accounts.

I'm fairly sure that it's a known problem with Sky - I'd recommend using a different web mail provider - yahoo works well for me, but there are plenty of others.

Thanks for this. Ive just been told that windows mobile 5 will not send any emails to anything other than via a home wireless network and that I would have to authenticate myself by diving into the advanced settings on the dell. this apparently is a security measure. After trying this Im glad to say It works fine although Ill be investigating a Google account. By the way all microsoft could do was to tell me to pay £199 and they would look into the problem!!

If you are using a mobile device for email why not set up your own domain and get an imap server such a www.1and1.co.uk. That way you can view your email via your mobile, your desktop and the web.
I'm using the Personal Exchange server of www.mail2web.com which gives me access to an exchange server so that I can use push email. It uses Microsoft Web Outook so contacts and calendar are also syncronised. ie. My secretary adds an appointment and it is updated on my Vario and vice versa.
Cost - $1.99 per month
