Hi, as soon as mmO2 get round to texting me my PAC code I intend to move the T-Mobile.

1. USING HANDSET AS MODEM FOR NOTEBOOK COMPUTER
Right now, I'm using a Motorola V3 (first edition) and have been using GPRS for my data on my notebook computer. I understand I will need a Web 'n' Walk plus subscription to do the same on T-Mobile.

2. HANDSET PRICING
I intend to purchase the T-Mobile MDA Vario II. The quoted price on the Flext 20 service plan in £110 however I will also be taking out £12.50 of additional service - is it possible to get the handset at a reduced rate to reflect this. Furthermore are the service agents able to negotiate on the handset price?

3. MICRISOFT EXCHANGE SERVER
I am a user of Microsoft Exchange Server, the rep told me I would require another email service in addition to the web 'n' walk service. Is this correct, if so what exactly is web 'n' walks advantage if you have to buy additional service to use the internet fully.

4. INSTANT MESSAGING
Also, I use MSN messenger and would enjoy this facility on the handset - would using such service be in breach of the usage policy of the web 'n' walk plus service plan.

5. HANDSET FEEDBACK
Also, any feedback on the handset would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ross!

check through t-mobiles website i was about to order a mda vario II on flex 35 for 69.99 and then clicked the current offer of web walk free for three months
instead of 69.99 i got it for 39.99.

re 1, 3 and 4

1) yes you'll need to add w&w walk to your price plan as you suggest
3) web and walk simply provides internet access, how you get email depends on what you want to pickup and the compatability of the handset. AFAIK as the Vario is a Windows Mobile device it will be able to connect to POP3, IMAP4 and exchange server either via server activesync, or direct push.
4) technically you cant use msn messenger without breaching their policy. I dont think its physically blocked on w&w but they might get grumpy and send you warnings if they catch you!

MOIP is definetly allowed on the web n walk plus and max plans ;);)

2. Web 'n' Walk will reduce the price of the handset by £30 compared to the standard Flext tarrif. This is regardless of it being the £7.50, £12.50 or £22.50 options.
If you buy it on the web or over the phone, the price is fixed, you may be able to negotiate at your local T-Mobile store however.

3. I think the person you spoke to got exchange server mixed up with blackberry style push email. Within Web 'n' Walk you'll be able to use exchange just fine.

4. If you're using the £12.50 web 'n' walk option you'll be allowed to use MSN messenger on both the handset and the laptop, it's allowed under the fair use policy.

5. Good choice! Just be careful of Flext 20, the allowance doesn't go that far. And if you're using it as a modem for your laptop, give us a shout if you need help setting it up, it can be a bit of a pain!

I have the web n walk pro which is great I must say, I use msn all the time and never had any problems from T-mobile, have had the web n walk for 8 months now, they have even given me a £2 loyalty reduction on the last 5 months, don't know why, they just did it.

I also have the web n walk £7 on my normal T-mobile phone bill, and I use msn a lot on my phone aswell, I use a program that lets you have all the chat programs, like msn, icq, yahoo, aol, google talk and jabber I am amazed at how good they are on the phone

I am 100% happy with T-mobile, I have been with them for 10 years or more, and would never leave them.

Well, I went out and bought one :) And I must say I loved it!

Using the phone as a modem is temperamental at best and I never realized how back-word my town is, little 3G coverage but hey, that's what you get for living in Dumfries.

The T-Mobile people really messed up with my PAC code, apparently, someone entered the number i wish to port wrong and it didn't go through OK. No one bothered to tell me so I've been forced into another month of mmO2 service :(

Also, I seem to be experiencing quite a few dropped calls. Is that a general criticism of the t-mobile network, or is it just my area.

Being a teenager (:P) I would quite like to blue-tooth some pictures between friends, how do I do that from the Pocket PC interface?

And finally, what do I need to turn off on the handset to avoid excessive roaming charges when I travel abroad.

I never seem to have any dropped calls unless I know I am in a very bad T-mo area, I have found the 3 network, Voda and orange all worse than T-mo for dropping calls

Do a dial up connection on the pc, in control panel, my network connections, use the dial up option, put in user as user name, and *99# as the number to be dialed, it should work fine

Only plus and and above allow modem use, but I think it's a question of terms and conditions rather than a physical block.

You can use normal web and walk for using your handset as a modem and for Msn just watch your usage and if you stay within the 1gig you'll be fine.

Is using the phone as a modem the same as using the sim out of the phone in the data card?

I am coming to the end of my contract in march with my w&w pro, wonder if T-mo will reduce my monthly rental?

I do get a loyalty reduction now, have done for the last 8 or 9 months £15 inc vat
#
wonder if they will reduce that?
