I am a football photographer and need a reliable data card for syndicating my pictures to magazines and newspapers. Speed and reliability are paramount.

After using a T-mobile card covering the World Cup in Germany and being more than impressed. Very impressed with the prices too, but thats another issue.

When T-mobile launched their card here I was one of the first to get one. Until the start of this month have raved about it, love it to death, totally reliable, its fab, great, amazing etc etc. Hand on heart I have NEVER experienced any problems with T-mobile, even in packed stadiums of 75,000 with picture and text messages floating around the networks at half time, it has been totally reliable.

SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED and its certainly not my end.

• Monday Dec 4th - Terrible upload speeds at Manchester City v Watford
• Tuesday Dec 5th - Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League - gave up and couldnt send any files via email or FTP
• Saturday Dec 9th - Blackburn v Newcastle - peaked at about 20 then intermittently went from 4 to 8 with huge gaps before timing out when FTP and emailing.
Then.... floored it to Bolton 20 miles down the road for the 5.15 kick off Bolton v West Ham. Sent 18 files via email from the Bolton car park using satisfactory speeds, though this was only 30k/sec at MOST, but it was a consistant signal and things got through eventually. Inside the stadium where normally I am using a constant 55k connection - normally one of the best in the country in my opinion for T-mobile, I couldnt get out for love nor money and ended up using the stadium wifi.
• Sunday 10th Dec - Chelsea v Arsenal - before, during and after the match - in a word useless. Started to run slowly from 13-20 k/sec then stopping and then peaking from 4 - 8k. Tried logging on using only GRPS and again could not get anything out using email. Sending directly to my house files go at 48-55 normally.
• Monday 11th Dec - Thank God for stadium wifi - Sheffield United v Villa peaked at 8 and crawled mostly at 1.1 - 1.8
• Tuesday 12 Dec - Nottingham F v Salisbury - Download speeds on web browsers are very good. Uploading using SMTP and FTP are certainly not very good. 14000 on GSM 3 years ago was quicker

Wednesday - supposed to be at Blackburn but can not be bothered to go as my card is not reliable and im wasting my time. Today I have been trawling through the shops looking at other cards.

T- MOBILE SUPPORT - not the best. not nearly as good as Orange was. Everything seems to be OK they say and blame my mac, card and software. All my working life I have kept up to date with technology using sat fones, connecting wires in hotel rooms etc to get pictures out to newspapers.

Gave them a detailed list including postcodes, now 48 hours later still have not heard anything and Im fed up and going to spent unnecessary money on back ups. Have used my sim in other peoples phones and using USB nova media modems... again experienced the same problems, so its not my card.

Other peope I know in other parts of the country have had the same problems. IF the network is being updated then so be it.. just tell us.. but dont say please that everything is OK as its certainly not.

rant over....

anyone else having continous problems... or are users just sending small packets and dont need the speed that I do.??

Yep i often get this problem where it does nothing for large amounts of time and then starts wroking again. Sometimes it just wont do anything; in which case i have disconnected and then reconnected to the network. This usually does the trick although it only usually happens when using UMTS. I have been on HSDPA and GPRS and it hasn't happened once. Havent yet talked to T Mobile but looking to do that soon as i have a list of things that have been playing up.

Have you got an email address for T Mobile as it saves me calling them up?

i would maybe try and go in and disabling the speed manager

think it is in options-configuration, set speed manager to (no)

ive found when i get calls regarding slow downstream/upstream, this can help a lot.

also when disabling this ive found that ppl whom could not connect to msn,rdp etc get connected fine afterwards.

you could also create a manual connection to the network and see how that goes

good luck ;)

Are you running an external antenna on the datacard? I do and it always gets a 3G connection (and in an iffy 3g area).

They can be had from option (the cards manufacturers) or off ebay for about £20.
