Good Evening All,

Strictly speaking, this is a general Orange rather than a 3G specific query but I'm hoping I can take adavantage of all the experience hereabouts.

I have received the PAC code letter from Orange. Does activation of this by my new service provider automatically terminate my contract, direct debit etc.

Or, do I need to call / write and cancel the contract additionally.

I'm not in"free phone" contract any longer having been with Orange for 11 years and apparently not able to use the "existing customers treated as new customers" promise but that is a whole other story!

Thanks in advance to anyone who cares to comment.

Regards,
Pete Springfield

When your number has been been transfered to your new provider your contract is terminated with your old provider automatically.

When you asked for your PAC code you gave your 30 days notice of intended disconection to orange. If you do not use the PAC code within the 30 days orange assume you have changed your mind and want to stay with orange. After the 30 days are up you can re-apply for another PAC code.

If you have used your PAC code and port has been completed say on day 10 you will still owe orange line rental for 20 days as there was 20 days left on your disconnection notice.

You will receive a final bill from orange showing any money you owe them or they owe you. When I left orange recentely they sent a final bill which showed they owed me money too which they sent me a cheque.

Once orange have sent you the final settlement bill and if you owe them money once they have collected the money, or if they owe you money wait until you have received payment. You will need to cancel the direct debit yourself but only after all monies are paid / collected, I left it several months before I got round to it

Yes once your new service provider usses the code and moves the number over your other contract and everything will terminate.

Its always a good idea to cancel the direct debit with any old contracts else they remain dormant on the account and you never know they could just take more payments. Orange will send you a final bill for use upto the termination, once this has been collected cancel your DD or cancel it before and pay the last bill by card or cheque.

Many Thanks,

I'm immensely greatful to your prompt and helpful replies. I'm not much of a phone buff but recently had my eyes opened by the camera, MP3 and other intelligent facilities noe on offer.

So no real expeience of jumping networks or contract renewals.

Thanks Again,
Pete

I used to be on orange for all my phones I have now ported my numbers to 3 and t-mobile and all went without a problem.

I went to T-mobile when the did the flext opening offer when they did 25% off their tariffs for as long as you stay with them on the flext range of tariffs, which includes unlimited WnW for £5-00.

I tend to go direct to the networks for my phones and deals as if you keep an eye on the deals that they offer, they can be quite good. Or if you go to a retailor ask around as there are rouge ones around as well good ones. You could look at the 3g.co.uk shop to see if there is anything suitable.

For upgrades I have always gone direct to the networks as again they can offer the best upgrade deals, for the tariffs I was on.
