Sorry if this is not the correct place to post this but it felt like the most fitting.
My missus is currently with orange and is due an upgrade. She has ordered a M3100 which has not arrived yet. She has no interest in the phone and is quite happy with the Nokia she already has. So the phone is going to a good home - Me !.
No will she have to change to a new sim ? Will this sim still fit her old(?) phone so that she can keep the number?
I curently have a N80 with Orange and i was just hopeing to put my sim in. Job Done. Is it that simple or will she be forced to change to a new sim?
I seem to remember getting my message setting through when i ghot the N80. If these arrive to her old sim should she just ignore them. I know you can Sms yourself settings from the orange site which i was hoping to do.

Thanks in advance for your replies

Orange use different types of sim for their 2G and 3G phones, but you can use a 3G sim in a 2G phone and vice versa.

When you upgrade on orange you will also get a new sim with the new phone You need to register the new phone and sim so that your new contract is enabled, The existing phone number moves to the new sim when you register the upgrade.

If you are getting the new phone on a totally new contract and not an upgrade contract then you will be issued a new phone number. In this case you will need to port the old number to another network then re-port it back to orange.

Hi Buckster

Only one thing you really need to worry about and that is if you have insurance on either account.

On your wife's, if she is upgrading to M3100 and has 'Care' it will be the
M3100 that is covered, not the phone that she is going to continue to use, so a potential problem if her existing phone develops a fault (you may find she suddenly has an interest in the new phone!)
The same really on your account, even though you would be using the SPV, the nokia would still be the 'paired' handset.
If No insurance then no problem!
When the SPV arrives, register the new sim with it to get it all activated (make sure updates come through with new sim in SPV), your wife then puts that new sim in her old phone, keeping her old number, you put your sim from N80 - as is 3G will work as normal, no need for any settings (we hope!)
Hope all that makes sense
K

Hi Buckster

should we get the idea from the 'plan' that you might have had some sway in the handset your wife chose for the upgrade that she didnt really want!!!

got it yet? finished playing with it yet? been threatened with divorce if you dont stop playing with yet?!!!

Have fun :D
