I wonder if the mini USB port replaces the standard charging connector so you can charge the N95 via ur PC?

Judging by this pic, there is no Pop-port connector, only a mini-USB connector http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

That is indeed true. No point having both now is there?!

Edit: Oh, and it is confirmed that you can't charge using USB.

That's a bit rubbish then coz it would make sense to be able 2 just charge ur phone whilst u are at ur PC or every time u connect the phone 2 the PC. Plus just means there is another 'hole' in the phone - with the TV out and audio out connectors, as well as the mini-USB port.

We can nickname it the swiss cheese phone ;)

I assume the fact the phone is so powerful, a USB charger wouldn't provide enough power, certainly not form the actual computer.

I charge / sync my XDA Mini S via USB all the time - in fact I find it better that way... I cannot see any reason why USB couldn't charge a N95?

I don't think that the problem is the power of the phone. I reckon that it's more a case of not having any space left to squeeze the additional circuitry in!

I'm sure they would have enough space to squeeze the additional circuitry in if they removed the standard charging connector http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Then they would alienate people who don't have computers! Though my DS charges through what looks like a mini usb connection with a charger.

Yes, they would use a wall charger with a USB connector on the end.

There must be some reasoning behind it, because it seems the easiest and cheapest solution to allow USB charging. But Nokia clearly don't think it is.

It is probably cost? Would it cost more to add charging circuitry to a USB port use the the existing Nokia charger?

People without computers deserve to be alienated!

N95 - It's what computers have become.
Therefore you don't need a computer. :p lol

You dont even need a computer to charge something with mini usb. My old XDA exec charged and sync'd with a mini usb, and it had a separate charger which was just like any old conventional charger, but had a mini usb end to it.

Unlike the bloody Blackberries which won't charge via USB until you've installed the driver!

Ok now the n95 section is understandably getting a lot of hits at the moment so its important that we keeep it tidy. So from here on in could all questions regarding the N95 please be restricted to within the "n95 experience" or "support" thread.

Any subsequent threads that are started outside that could be placed within that will be deleted.

IM not trying to sound harsh but you have to understand that if every new n95 owner starts their own thread for a problem then the n95 section will just become a mess. This was all information is easier to track down.

Thanks for your cooperation.
