My phone needs a firware upgrade due to issues accessing the gallery and zooming in on pictures. Just took it to where I bought it from - Carphone Warehouse - which is also a Nokia service point.
Because it's a new phone and the engineer hasnt been trained, they will have to send it away and it could take 2 weeks. I mean, how difficult can it be to do a firmware upgrade - surely these engineers have access to instructions?
Not only that, but if I wanted to loan a phone while mine is away, I have to leave a £50 deposit even though mine is better than the one they have loaned me!
Any suggestions - does it really need to be sent away?
Thanks.
It might be because they don't have the firmware for it yet. Have you tried any other Nokia service point? You can search for your nearest one on the Nokia site

To upgrade the firmware on this (and most) Nokia phones you need the right kit. The package of hardware necessary costs a fair whack so I imagine it's fair enough that not every phone retailer will have it in the back.. I doubt you're being hard done by mate. Just the way it is.
GL with the service centre. They should definitely have the hardware in their shop!
Find that hard to believe when for many other phones you can do it yourself from the nokia website via the datacable.

Ermm.. 'many' other phones? I see 15 supported phones for the procedure, over the air and via datacable..
Or are you on about channels other than the Nokia website? If there are any I'd be interested to hear.. I have phones other than my 6680 I could do with flashing.
Either way, if these people are dealing professionally and commercially with other people's handsets I imagine they'll be following the manufacturer's instructions rather than risk voiding someone else's warranty which in Nokia's case - surprisingly enough - means buying their flashing dongle/cradle/phoenix software.
nope ... was talking about the 15 on the nokia website.
i really wouldnt trust 3rd party flash's as no-one would touch the phone if it went wrong.

All you need is the right cable which isn't that expensive anyway. Almost every corner shop can do that now here in London.
