One of my frds got a W550i from cpwh under an orange plan and it came without network locking, same thing applies to another frd who got a k750i from cpwh, orange. Is this actually supposed to happen? and does the same apply to K800i?

Normally network branded phones come locked to the networks that they are intended for.

O2 contract phones are normally unlocked while their payg phones come locked to the network.

With some shops you can get generic sim free phones supplied for use on networks, used to be mostly on O2 and vodaphone.

On orange some will register a orange branded phone and sell you a unbranded phone ie if you wanted the N90, as at the moment it is not availiable officially on orange.

Ocassionally you can get orange branded phones supplied unlocked from new like there was a batch of the Sanyo S750i's supplied unlocked.

With the K800 I think the only ones that you might find supplied unlocked would be the O2 contract ones. members who have the K800 on O2 will hopefully confirm if this is correct or not.

Right, cause actually the only reason why I want the phone unlocked is cause I want to use it overseas. So is it possible to ask them whether it comes locked before I buy it (or would they glare at me)?

Also, can anyone getting it on O2 tell me whether it comes locked?

Thanks mate

Right, if you ever buy from carphone warehouse, they sell you sim-free phones with a sim-only contract simcard in them. The only time usually the phones are locked are when they are network exclusives like the old NEC's and LG's or the new Nokia 6234 which is a voda exclusive. Even if it comes locked, which from CPW it shouldnt, then it is a £20 fee from orange to get it unlocked. This usually applies to all 3rd party retailer like P4U and The link, but don't quote me on it. If it helps I know that dialaphone sell sim-free for a fact as I bought a Nokia 6230i on o2 PAYG from them and it was a totally generic handset, as the o2 internet/mms settings werent even installed.

Thanks guys. So basically, if I go for a K800i contract from CPWH (which is not network exclusive...) from either Orange or O2, the phone should not be simlocked right? But one more thing, does the contract period have to be over in order to get Orange to unlock my phone? Cause for Three that's the case

Any network really, if the phone is available sim-free then CPW use Sim-Free handsets usually.
