Hi,
I am transferring my number from My Vodafone PAYG into my Orange contract. How long exactly does it take? They gave me an exact date for the transfer which is 7/9 between 11am -4pm. Is it likely it happens before that?

Normally takes around 5 working days. On both occasions that I have ported numbers it has been on the day that I was given.
Like davec I have ported various numbers across different networks and it has always been on the day stated.

Then I gotta wait five more days.
BTW, did it happen before that some one transffered a number to Vodafone after a couple of months of connection?

Everyday I insert my Orange sim to check if the transfer has completed or not. But today when I wanted to check the orange sim wont work. The phone boots up in the offline mode and when i change it to General mode it says "insert sim" is this a sign of the porting is ongoing or is my sim got damged as I keep it with my coins in the wallet!!!

Sounds like Orange have disconnected the old number in advance of the port.
What has happpened to your Vodafone PAYG SIM?

Nothing's happened. It's still working.
Phoned Orange, they say that my sim is active and the port should take place tomorrow 7th Sep. They offered me a new sim which will be sent after the port. But it's really wierd!!! the sim looks fine, the golden chip is not scratched. But why this happened?
I am hoping for what you said DaveC that they disconnected it for the port as today is the 5th working day since the port has started.. If not that means I would wait a couple of days before I start my new contract which is now more than 15 days old.

I remembered something!!!
I asked Orange first to transfer my o2 number accross and they assigned the 5th Sept as the transfer date but I cancelled that two days after my request and placed a new porting request for My vodafone number. Is it likely that my number was disconnected yesterday (5th sept) for this reason and now it is waiting tomorrow for the Vodafone number to be completely transferred into my sim, which means there is nothing wrong with my sim???
