Hi
Has anyone managed to unlock a contract Nokia N80 on '3'? i know off all the hassle 3 put owners through just wondered if anyone has been successful.
thanks. I fully understand that 3 willnot unlock a BB5 handset within a 12 month period unless the contract is paid up, just wondered if the pressure they get from BB5 handset owners unhappy that other networks will do the service for a small fee has had any effect.

For gods sake .... its network unlock ONLY as you & others have already been informed on mumerous occasions.
Unless the user is made of money i doubt anyone will have had this done as the handset is less than 6 months old.
Also as the unit is contract only on 3 .... it is a ridiculous request for a user who will still have to pay 3 line rental for the best part of 1 year.
Personally i use 3 in the UK & swap to a cheap handset when i am abroad n drop in a local network sim card. The way I look at it is .... when I am on holiday , I am not wanting harassed by work issues so the wife n family are the only ones who get my non-uk number.
Also to be honest the only people who want these handsets unlocked are people planning on dumping the contract & punting the handset overseas.
One piece of honest advice .... If you want a handset unlocking quickly n cheaply .... do not buy from 3 & forget about the Nokia BB5 range.

3 will have to change its own terms & conditions & unless Ofcom force their hand its not going to happen.
So until then please refrain from starting threads about Nokia's & 3 when the answers are already widely available on here & from 3's CS.

I understand only the network can unlock the handset or any BB5 phone, all i'm just curious because i have unlocked bb5 phones on other networks within contract for an admin fee only, i have also been with 3 for 4 years so i know all the hassle they give out regarding unlocking codes, i know 3 do sometimes bow to pressure and i have read an Ofcom ruling against 3 that mentioned unlocking handsets.
I just wanted to know if anyone had been successful that's all.

Doubt it as they would make you pay £400+ to unlock within a contract.

Hi,
I am having some fun unlocking my N80, so I am hoping someone here can help!
I am on contract in the UK, I have the unlocking code from Vodafone (which they gave me for free!) and have entered it and it stated 'sim restriction off' which I assumed meant I was unlocked.
However... on putting in either of my Vodafone Spain PAYG SIMs, the phone then requests a 'codigo de blokque' which I assume means blocking code :-)
Nothing I seem to enter works and I dont want to enter it more than 10 times as I read this then locks either the sim or the phone.
I have tried 12345 and the PUK but they do not work.
I have tried to re-enter the unlocking code, but the phone will only accept numbers at that point and not alpha-numerics which the code is.
Anyone have a clue? Speaking to Vodafone Spain is driving me mad due to the language barrier!
Thanks!

If the phone has been 'unlocked' try contacting the PAYG simcard networks, it's not a problem i have experienced try speking to Vodaphone uk.

i have read an Ofcom ruling against 3 that mentioned unlocking handsets.
.
and the ruling said they should unlock phones and they now do - it didnt say anything about charges...

Have you set the phones security level to request a pin code if you use a different sim in the handset ?
If so try switching the setting to off then insert other sim.

oh! you the man! thats solved it - THANK YOU! :-)
No why the hell could either Vodafone UK or ES tell me thats what it was!
I am now unlocked for free (thanks to Vodafone UK!) and roaming on cheap Spanish data rate which are 4p a MB as opposed to £10.28!
Thanks again :-)

I have 2 sim cards and would like to use them both in my N80 - I don't want to 'punt the handset overseas'

if its locked to a uk network and that network has no coverage where you go it will not work no matter what sim you put in it.

Pinksteady & Lorre ... your argument for unlocking your handset is weak to be honest .... buy a cheap 2nd handset if you really need to use more than 1 sim or get a second sim on 3.
It has been explained on numerous occasions in several threads .... if you have a BB5 handset then contact the network - in this case 3 and get them to unlock it.
There is no other commercially available way of unlocking these handsets.
If you do not like this then why didnt you do some research before committing to a contract or buy a sim free unlocked unit from expansys.com instead of spitting the dummy on an internet forum.

I'm getting a bit confused mate, i think we both understand the situation regarding unlocking BB5 handsets (been a 3 customer for 4 years now 6630,6680,n70,n80)
I'm also a T-mobile customer (Contract) and have PAYG simcards for Orange,Swisscom,Vodaphone and O2)
I currently Have an N80 on 3 and a unlocked N70(T-mobile branded).
I must admit i will probaly sell the N80 on 3 and get an unlockable N80 (Before you ask got the N80 deal dirt cheap)
The bottomline is i find it convienent and like to put different simcards in my phones that's all, and if i lose a phone everything is interchangable.
Ninety percent of people understand the situation regarding 3 and bb5 handsets.
I'm just curious as to why you think someone unlocking a handset automatically means they want to 'dump their contract or punt the handset overseas'? In alot cases it works out cheaper to have a contract phone then pay to unlock the handset than to buy a sim free phone, and even cheaper still if you can get a secondhand handset unlocked.

I am in a contract with 3, for some official work i am in India for six months and I want to use my N80 here locally but i cannot use it as it has the Service Provider Lock.....
I tried contacting Nokia Service Center here in New Delhi-India but al in vain....
:-(
Need help on this asap....
thanks in advance....
As the N80 is a BB5 type phone only the network provider can provide the unlock code.
With 3 they will not provide the unlock unless you are in the last month or out of your min term of your contracted period.
If you ask 3 for the unlock code while you are in your contracted period they will request you to pay off the balance of the contract plus the unlocking fee of £15-00.

If you pay off the remainder of the min term does that mean you no longer pay any line rental as your account will show as x amount of months in credit?
If you look at 3's terms and coditions about 3/4 of the way down the web page below you can see their terms for unlocking. They do not mention what happens about your contract.

Well that is weird, so if for example I was on a 12 month contract at £15 a month and 5 months into that contract i want to unlock my handset but retain my service should they ask for the remaining seven months line rental upfront in this example that is £105 + £15 then it stands to reason that I will not have to pay line rental for the next seven months???
Weird!
