Hi,

In a bit of a pickle at the moment. I'm on orange contract have over 12months left and have a 2.5g phone with sim card. I have just started working for vodafone who have kindly given me a Sony Ericsson K800i which is unlocked and flashed of any Voda branding.

Problem is my 2.5g orange sim wont let me use the 3g functionality of my new phone. I have spoken to orange who have said they will not give me a 3g sim card unless i upgrade to a 3g phone through them direct. This will cost over £200 as I am still in commitment. Can anyone see any way around this? Can I buy an unregistered orange 3g sim card from anywher and have my number on it? I currenly have a rather expensive 3g handset that is useless.

Thanks in advance.

If you're working for vodafone, you can get a staff contract with no line rental, so can't you do that? Else maybe ty going into an Orange store, you may be able to buy a 3G contract sim.

have a look on ebay - they are usually a few floating about on there. Also, as Phantom said, try your local orage store as some stores have been known to flog them sim only in the past for about a fiver.

The SIMS Orange shops sell are PAYG not contract.

I tried to get a contact sim for my wife's phone and they refused. Said they would be glad to convert it to 3g PAYG at the end of contract period!

I do get a staff contract which is amazingly good value but I am in contract with orange for another 14 months. Paying both bills would be stupidly expensive.

Orange will not give out 3g contract sims. That seems to be the bottom line here.

Can anyone help?

Is it an Orange Supplied phone? You could try ringing them up and telling them your sim is faulty specifically mentioning that it is a 3g phone.

No. I got it from foneplanet.com. But it looks a good trick. The thing is doesnt it appear in thier system that my "fake faulty" sim is a 2G one??

Possibly - The real crux of the matter is that foneplanet should not have supplied you with a 3g phone if they were not going to supply you with the correct sim. Orange only seem to be concened with the phones they have sold personally, even if they are on contract with them. Why they have to have different sims beats me - Vodafone and T-Mobile do ok without.

yeah That's right. But i was really interested in the N93 so it's all complicated. I am now on the phone with Orange CS qeueing, will try your trick but do not wanna lie so I damaged the sim already!

try going into a orange store and telling them that your sim has been lost... say you were swapping it into another phone or something... they will have some unregistered sim cards in the store tha they will be able to supply you with for about £5... every mobile network does this as far as i know... vodafone do and same for o2 and t mobile.

i am afraid they will do the sim registration for me and will sind in thier systems a different phone the one I have in hands. Because the n93 is still a sim free phone the shop connected me to a 2G phone!! But where can i buy one of these unregistered 3G sims? All the ones on ebay look PAYG 3G sims!!!!

Personaly, i would demand a 3g SIM. After all, Orange are going to make more revenue from you with video calling, have you asked them to change your tarif to a 3g one?
