My local SE service centre told me they would NOT debrand a K800 for free.

But you can use DavinciTeam to unbrand it (I used them for my W800i). It cost me about £7 and i was able to use the cable that came with the phone. It took about 15 minutes tops.

Debranding does NOT unlock it.

Unlocking doesn't damage the phone it is 100% safe when available

As far as i know unlocking this phone is not possible at the moment. Some people say they can but most of the reputable dealers say it is not possible.

However do not believe anything the P4U or any other retailer say they usually have no idea about what they are saying (you do get the odd salesperson who doesn't talk rubbish)

I Have asked Vodafone for the unlock code for the K800i, however they have still not sent it to me after 12 days!! You say they sent it to you within 9 days. What did you do to speed up the process? I have contacted them every single day since i asked for the code, and up until now nothing has arrived. Thank for your help.

I called about 2 or 3 timies and they had to contact Sony Ericsson for the unlock code.

I requested it on the Monday and it came the following Thursday, so 9 working days and they emailed it me.

I don't think there is much you can do but keep ringing them, hope you get it soon!

Ah, the joys of SE in tandem with 3..........

I split my time between the UK and Brazil, so I need an unlocked phone to use my Brazza SIM - my old k750i on Orange required a trip to the dodgy fella on the high st, and now I'm stuck with my new K800i on (shudder) 3......

And my dodgy fella can't help me, so it's onto 3 Customer 'Service'...............

I have to say, after three sepparate calls (usually terminated when communication became impossible), I have no idea if they can give me a 'code'. They say they can, but then I'm required to (I think) pay my line rental entirely up front (??) - the process sounds so horribly convoluted I can only imagine they don't actually know themselves (or at least 'claudia' in India doesn't know).

If I get a code I'll post it asap & we'll see if it's generic

- although the k750i requires a cable, so I'm not convinced the k800i will be any different..........

The best way to deal with 3 (so called) 'customer service' is to email them off the website with a complaint and request to have someone from the UK ring you on your mobile.

They usually get in touch the day after, but at least you can get sense out of them.

Just been down to see them- they couldnt do it afterall - aparently they can do it as Test point which requires litterally tampering with the hardwware but i am going to wait now until the software comes out.

EDITED To add further info: This phone CAN'T be unlocked.. (Well it can, but not easily)... you need a HEX Editor, and SE Tool 3 to flash it afterwoods)

debranding just means basicly if the phone has all the o2 theme , orange ect it will make it how the phone is simfree and it will overwrite all your settings yes hope this helps

Nope cant be done, you need to look at the N80 for that.

K800i unlocking at the moment is done by giving the IMEI number to three and they generate the unlock code.. you push a few buttons on the phone and then put the code in and it unlocks it...

But 3 will charge you a fortune to do it, basicly the outstanding rental on your contract. If you bought it on ebay and dont have a contract with three, they wont do it.

Just tried this didnt work. When i called i had to give them the IMEI number and of corse it brought up the old account holders information. The only way around this is to get the person you bought it from to ring up and ask them to say that its ok for you to unlock if you see what i mean. Its all a pain in the arse! some one just bring an unlock out please!!

the reason why vodafone K800i can be unlocked is only because some vodafone staffs stole the unlock code from vodafone inside and put it for sales

and Unlock CODE is unique and don't spend more than 5 times in guessing the code or you will make the 5 locks CLOSED.

3 spent a load of cash getting a 3G licence so they have cut costs by opening a first line CS centre in India.

The main problem is accents & the CS understanding them & also of course there is the patience of the customer.

Don't get me wrong i have had some ding dongs with Indian CS agents at several companies but its all down to patience & explaining your issue in clear english.

Anyway I think the Ebay user that you are buying the handset from may be trying to lead you a merry dance.

And if the handset arrives & is locked to 3 , I doubt you will see you money again as the customer is selling the item for the purpose for which it was designed ..... To work on the 3UK network.

So unless the seller is prepared to post some pictures of the handset working with another networks sim & of course with 3's branding on it.Also a newspaper with the days date on it when you get it then I really wouldnt get too excited about buying the phone as many other people have been duped by sellers claiming that handsets can easily be unlocked.

Good Luck anyway but why don't you just get a handset that works on the network you want to use it on & save yourself some potential grief.

Believe it or not I thought I had but bid for the wrong phone. Felt rather stupid when i realised a day later. Going to hang on to it just now in the hope kingmobile manage to find out how to unblock it. Otherwise I'll buy an o2 k800i and sell the 3 one I bought in error!

Looks like they have a deal with the above service providers.

Vodafone UK will sell you the code for about £20.

Obviously, companies try to protect their investments but how does this work with phone locking?
Three, say, enter into a contract with a customer for 12 or 18 months and both parties are bound by this. So, what does it matter if the customer wants to unlock their phone?
The STILL have to pay the 12/18 months worth of contract fees and this MUST cover the company's costs/profit!
So, they should unlock the phone for free!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah 3 for some bizarre reason claim it is illegal to unlock handsets - their words not mine.

They also want the customer to pay up their contract despite customers stating they want to keep 3 as their service provider.

Anyone got a copy of 3's T&C's that states it is illegal to unlock or use another providers sim in there handsets or that a user has to pay off his contract to get them to unlock the handset.

Surely the only thing an unlock may do is invalidate the warranty or increase the value of the handset when it comes to selling it.And we couldnt have that happening could we ?
