Hi,

I have a SE S700i that used to receive MMS picture messages fine (around 30 - 40K and about 640X480px) then one day all my received MMS pictures started to come in at around 8-12K and only 112X150px, around about the same time I'm sure I received a 'settings text message' from Vodafone that I accepted.

When I phoned Vodafone they said they have never heard of this problem and I must of changed some settings on my phone.

Anyway I lived with the problem and did nothing about, now I've moved over to Orange and have a N80 and now I have the very same problem!

I send myself a photo on the N80 and it leaves the phone a healthy 512x384px 60KB and a couple of seconds later I receive (on the same phone) the same image scaled down to a puny 176x132px 8KB ?????

I rang Orange and they didn't have a clue. I know my N80 is NOT resizing the photos before it sends them because I've sent the same photos to other phones (Razr & K750i) and they receive them nice and big. I think it's my network resizing the images in transit.

Please someone help it's driving me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave

I can't help directly, but I can tell you that 176x132 is the display dimensions for an old Series 60 nokia. They have a 176x220 screen, but when in standby mode, the visible area for the background is 176x132.

That's some very specific resizing that's going on at some point.

I think the settings are wrong on your receiving or sending phone. I'd find it very surprising if the image was resized en route.

I got a pic message from www.ninja-net.co.uk and it fit ok, but I'd have to put it on my computer and edit it to change the res so that's a weird one.

Try displaying the pic as a background and see if it's the same size maybe. Or get a new phone. Sorry. It might be your network only handles below a certain amount for MMS (picture messages). Mine (3) is 150 k which is still pretty lame let's face it but 50 k man.

Try getting a pic from www.ninja-net.co.uk they're about 140KB for an animated gif and see if it displays correctly.

orange very unkindly resize the image automatically as it passes through them to "cost you less in data charges for downloading the message"

explains why i never use mms

youll also find a lot of their earlier SPVs are the only HTC devices that have been programmed to resize the image in an mms before it leaves the phone
