Quick question- I have searched these forums and some of the answers come close but I'm guessing there is no answer to my problem...
I have an O2 XDA Exec with a vodafone PAYT SIM in it- 3G and GPRS are fine but there appears to be no way to get vodafone live! to use MobileTV. 4 calls to customer service and a trip toa store have produced mixed messages.
I have installed the iMate vodafone PAYT cab and all settings are fine but there appears to be no way to get to live!
http://live.vodafone.com/ seems to be dead all of the time as well...

I have the same problem. Operators produce a differently formatted version of their portal for each handset and it appears that Vodafone do not support the exec, shame, 2 mobile TV customers on this forum they have lost.

Thanks very much for this- will give it a try in the morning. I was under the impression that the O2 Exec could not deal with vodafone live but will let you know the outcome.

The O2 exec has internet explorer and is easily capable of displaying vodafone live but for some reason it doesn't work.
I entered the vodafone live settings and I can browse any site apart from vodafone live on my exec! This is mad as vodafone also sell the exec to business customers (I believe they brand it as the Vodafone v1640). Sort it out vodafone!!

It could be to do with the fact it doesn't have a vodafone certificate contained on the phone somewhere. If you really want to get VL working I suggest you download a Vodafone UK ROM for it and then replace the O2 ROM already installed.

I've herd of people with the Vodafone ROM having no success either! Has anyone seen Vodafone live on an exec???
How could I obtain a copy of the Vodafone ROM?

Hi PeteMc,
The O2 XDA Exec is the same as the Qtek V1640 which Vodafone sell.
Vodafone Live! isn’t available on this handset. The company that runs Vodafone Live! On behalf of Vodafone are looking into the software for this model, however no timescale is available.
I hope this helps.

Cheers for that, do you work for Vodafone? It would be good if Vodafone live set the homepage for the qtek v1640 to just the text based version which you get when you access live on an ancient handset in the meantime, before the full software is installed.

Hi PeteMc,
Sorry for the late reply. I do indeed work for Vodafone and I can offer you informal help.
You can set Vodafone Live! as the home page. You can enter the internet settings and make sure that the homepage is set as http://live.vodafone.com. You should be able to visit the Vodafone wap portal from the handset but it won’t be the Live! Version.
If you need the manual configuration guide for this handset, you can email us through our website at www.vodafone.co.uk/contactus. Please type the code FIT135 in the main body of the email so it's routed to the most suitable person.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
I just bought an Orange SPV M5000 on eBay.
I got it working on WiFi immediately without any trouble, but when I tried to get GPRS going, I hit a blank wall.
The system is:
Windows Mobile (R) 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1708 (Build 18508.0.7.0)
ROM version: 2.07.00 WWE
ROM date: 08/02/07
Radio version: 1.18.00
Protocol version: 42.54.P8
The general view seems to be that all the QTEK 9000s are the same, only differing in startup screen.
So, you have been able to set up your GPRS, albeit, without vodafone live, which apparently none of the 9000s can receive.
I can live with that, but I can't get that.
Could someone please talk me through the GPRS set-up, and help me to get onto the internet via vodafone GPRS.
Best regards,
DaveAt168.
ps.
I have found what purports to be official vodafone setting, and though one of the settings seemed to work, almost after I had given up hope on it, the speed is comparable to an old 4800b/s I/F.
This was the internet, web, web setting.
Is this slowness 'normal'?

Hi, I would suggest you upgrade to WM 6.1. You will get faster OS with wider modification. If you're interested can post you procedure & ROM.

Yes please!
I have to say though, I am a confirmed Apple Mac fan, and much retarded in windows.
I have though, using Windows XP, embodied in Parallels, succeeded in loading TT7, and PDF2 on to the 9000.
My version of Active Sync will be quite new, I downloaded it from the Windows site not more than a couple of months ago. I just checked, it is version 4.5, I understand it is critical to the process, and a great degree of hand-holding will be a necessity to one who is essentially a Windows newby.
Again, many thanks for the offer,
I will be pleased to accept any help.
I like this device, even if GPRS is going to be slow. Reading the reports though, I suspect that Vodafone's access point is somewhat overloaded.

Ok. First few questions:
Do you want install shipped ROM (came fully loaded from manufacturer, but most of time is full with unnecessary things) or so called "cooked" ROM (which is modified, and you can choose what you wanna have installed) ?
As forum rules have some restriction send me your email or if you have Skype contact and will send you a file(cca 50-60 MB) with detailed instalation. I have been using HTC Universal for couple months and was satisfied with it. But time is tickin away so now using HTC Touch HD & HTC Touch Pro.

Hi,
Many thanks.
I would be looking to find most of the normally built in bells and whistles, particularly pdf viewer and voice dial.
Since I am using TT7, I will normally use an SD, and at the monment I am using 4G, so I do not consider space a premium. If however, the bells and whistle cause excessive slowing of the GPRS service, then that is another question.
My eMail address is: DaveAt168@btinternet.com, and skype is daveat168. I have a Macbook, so skype is video capable, though I am a newby to skype also.

I've had a thought:
What would be the effect of flashing my M5000 with Vodafone's latest kosher ROM?
The ROM is:
vf-uk_v1640_aku2_v130194_wwe_ship.exe
Would I finish up with a phone locked to Vodafone?
Would the loader find that this is an Orange phone and refuse to load?
Would I finish up with a WM5 system, though a kosher one, and so then be limited to 2GB SD card?
I do not want to flash my ROM with a system which is slower, and more unstable than the 6.0 system, made in Russia, than I already have.
If WM5 is stable, and works with GPRS at a reasonable spead, and the gains of WM6+ are not much more than accepting a card bigger than 2GB, then I would consider regression.

Hi Dave
I tried to reach you , but no joy :dead:
anyways, to flash a different ROM you need to CID unlock your phone.this is very important. The wm6.0 is very stable, mature OS. There's only small advantage in wm6.1 (like nicer grafic,UI etc-but those are memory killers!).
I have wm6.0 in my HTC Touch (128RAM/256ROM) ,then wm6.1 withouth TouchFlo in my HTC Diamond (192RAM/256ROM) and finally full wm6.1 professional in my HTC Touch Pro (288RAM/512ROM). To enjoy a full potential of 6.1 Professional edition ( and upcomming wm6.5/7) you need a strong device (like HTC Touch Pro or HD) otherwise you'll be frustrated with a slow speed & response.
So if you wanna stuck with your Exec (HTC Universal) I would recommend you generic HTC Universal WM6.0 ROM. It has 3G (no HSDPA) so you're not stuck on GPRS( there's no EDGE).

Hi Rexton,
I guess that +7 hours delta T is a pain. I need to be online about noon, to catch you early evening.
EMail is safest comm channel, and I guess that any file bigger than a few meg is best put either on a CDROM, or SD card, and trusted to pony express.
I could post you a 2G micro SD as a vehicle. It should be reasonably safe in a card sandwich.
You have my eMail address, you can trace my home address from my url.
I did say that I am a skype newby. I did notice though that you had tried to skype me. I must have left the computer on while I was out.
BTW, what is CID unlock?
Is it complicated?

I sent you an email with a link, where you will find all info+ procedures+required software. The whole lot is around 100 MB and my email support up to 25 MB only.Follow the instruction very carefully as mistake could brick your device. But don't worry, it's easy and will take up to 30 mins .

Btw it's not wise to release your home address etc. You should keep them private. Email is enough! Be carefull!!!
