I am about to buy an N80 from Orange but I have heard that the network has blocked the wi-fi capabilities on the phone! Is this true and are there any other bugs on Orange? Thanks.
Also, will the phone come in black or silver?

They only have the silver phone at the moment.
Read the big orange thread - wifi is unclear at the moment given peoples different perspectives / feedback from Orange. We will know more from Monday onwards when first deliveries are taken and we post comments on here.

lleyton,
May I refer you to the ongoing N80 on Orange thread. As mister.c. so correctly points out we are waiting for the comments/findings of our 'early adopters' on Monday.

orange did block wifi on the spv600. if someone could report on an n80 from orange. (its tempting as they are still doing £100 cash back for old phone) but not having wifi makes the phone unappealing given the average camera and battery life.

Did they now.....
Apparently there were two Oswalds running around Dallas and visiting the Cuban Embassy during the period before the assassination.
I wouldn't mind betting Orange had some thing to do with this. The Zapruder film, various dictabelt recordings and Oswald's legal representation only on the 3G network.

I thought this had already been answered. I have an Orange N80 purchased from an Orange shop on Saturday(on upgrade).
It DOES have Wi-fi. It also has uPnP. I have tested both functions. The uPnP aspects are not wonderfully implemented, and unexpected responses from the uPnP servers can cause a phone reboot.
Lets answer the other question. There is NO homescreen. The only icon they have changed is the Orange world icon. Also they have installed Orange Photography, allowing online albums and print/mail-to-your-door services.
The phone only comes in Silver. I am not sure if they will do the black ones.

I have an orange contract & stipulated that I wanted an N80 - they actually phoned ME up & promised me the world + the N80 on upgrade either FREE or a sum less that £100 (I have a $hitload of points!) to keep me,
The CS operative gave me her personal extension number to call her back,
so I won't have to speak to anyone else.
will they deliver....or just lamb, chicken & fish!

Hehe....it really wasn't that hard. I could have had it on Friday if I had finished work early enough.
The Orange shops don't "normally" withold doing upgrades vs new contracts. Or at least the ones near me don't. I got mine from the Watford/Hertfordshire shop. Bluewater got about 15 in, but they had 30 pre-orders (including both new and upgrades)

When I phoned first thing on Saturday morning they had about 5. I picked mine up about 11:30. Perhaps they all rushed out the door! What time did you try?

hi daverobbo,
the camera of the N80 is not very good. you should read some reviews.
Basically it suffers from two major flaws:
1. CMOS
2. No autofocus
Particular problems around things closer then 5 meters and misfocus and fringing around the edges.
The best mobile camera is still the 2mp sony k750 or the Sharp 903 as they are auto-focus.
As any camera buff will tell you the most important things on camera quality are the lense quality, metering system and focus system. Unfortunately the N80 fails on all counts. This is to be expected as Nokia has always had the worst of the cameras. This is why they are trying carl-zeiss out for the better camera phones. Also note that there are new nokias coming out with autofocus and carl zeiss lenses with 3mp later in the year. In particular thte N73 looks to be both compact and much better quality:

Phones move quickly and there are better things then the N80 on the way.

Well good for you.
In the mean time we will enjoy our N80's, better than anything CURRENTLY available.
If everybody waited for the next bigger and better thing - no one would buy anything and the market would stop and you wouldn't have anything!!!

JonStatt It is exacly this type of 'inconsitancy' that really narks me!
I'm glad you got your phone but it is a real pain. If I try telling them you have already got it on upgrade out will come their 'straight bat'. Liverpool were very unhelpful.
Hope you njoy ur N80. I'm with the rest of the cattle at the back of the plane enjoying a cold salad on long haul!

If you are that serious about photography - why don't you do what everyone else normally does & buy a good spec digital CAMERA ;)
To me a 'phone' is mainly used for exactly that!, the camera & everything else are just good fun, practical side-orders
