Does any one know if the phone comes with anti virus, as my N70 came with symantec. Or, is there an anti virus software that will work on the N80 as it is a s60 third edition platform.

deniser,
There was some thing in "Stuff" magazine a couple of months ago about the dangers of viruses. They suggested software companies but I bet they didn't run on 3rd edition. Perhaps they will update them soon. I intend to get very drunk this evening with some mates from work, we try do this evey week! So if it's ok, it may take me some time to post this information to you.
Additionally, in the latest 'Mobile Choice' or 'What Mobile' there is an article regarding this subject....can't remember which one or the details at the moment. Bare with me and as soon as I am 'able' I will post anything I think relevent. Had wondered about this topic myself. Have never bothered with my M500, but think I might with the N80.

read something earlyer and one of the anti V companies has ported to 3rd edition (cant remember which one), but Ive not heard of there been any virus' on 3rd edition yetand the nature of 3rd edition should make it less suseptable to virus', but no doubt that mean people will see it as a challage and come up with something.

You do not need anti-virus on a symbian phone.
Especially with the new S60 signing, meaning only signed programs can be installed on the handset.

I always thought it was wise as most virus can enter your phone via bluetooth

The only way you will get a virus on a symbian phone via bluetooth (or any other means for that matter), is if you choose to install it
For example.....you are sat in a cafe and your phone beeps, and you are asked to accept a file from someone you don't know, you accept it and then it ask's you to install it, you are an absolute idiot and say yes.
With series 60V3 software that accesses the important functions has to be signed....so if they want to make a virus for your N80 they will have to send it to Symbian Signed for approval.
Mind you Orange install their own virus....and call it a homescreen

LOL.............. orange homescreen a virus ....... has anyone told cs............what did they say...............get a supervisor.............."oh sorry but its not showing on our system".................LOL
Seriously thanks for that info guys. I did know you needed to accept a file for a virus to install itself, but obviously I hadn't thought it through properly..........its the grey cells they start deplete when you hit 40, which I did this year lol.
I always keep my phone in hidden mode when my bluetooth is on, and only pair a phone with those in my family.

deniser,
I hit 39 this year!
According to the artical in "Total Mobile" ,(issue 144),170 mobile viruses have been launched. As ratkat wisely says they are spread mainly by bluetooth. However, Richard Hales of F-Secure suggests that it is only a matter of time before viruses get more destructive and evolve in the same way as those on a computer, (he would say this of course, as he is UK manager for this anti virus firm!).
"Stuff" magazine, (March 2006), detail the following forms of protective software:
1) Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian. £35. This has a firewall and automatic updates. www.symantec.co.uk
2) F-Secure Mobile Anti Virus. £35. WWW.f-secure.com
3) SimWorks Anti-Virus S60. US$20. Cheap and powerful, apparently!? WWW.handango.com.
The above may not yet work with the N80, but I an sure they will support 3rd edition at some point in the near future.
Yes I am drunk.

I remember reading on my-symbian once that it was rumoured F-Secure created most of the symbian viruses to sell their at that time 'the only virus software for Symbian'
Although I doubt there is any truth in this, it does amuse me somewhat that they have discovered many variants of symbian virus that in years of reading forums no one has ever caught, or at least if they did never shared with others on the forums, strange as usually forums are the first place people discuss their mobile problems

As allaboutsymbian.com point out there is absolutly no need for anti-virus or firewall on a S60 device.
The anti-virus companies are out to make money, so obivously they will say stuff like "it's only a matter of time".
Oh, and some people would run any old file, and anti-virus would be useful. However if you know remotely what you are doing, you wont need one.

you won't need anti virus, just amke sure you your bluetooth is off unless you need it and that your phone is hidden. The best way to be sure is not to open anything sent to you via bluetooth unless you know/were expecting it.
well known mobile antivirus programs include Fsecure and norton. Both you have to pay for. I'm not sure about compatability with the N80 as it is s60 3rd edition symbiam. A search on google for symbian software should find you results
