How come the phone is £59.99 if your on the 18month version?
Surely it should be cheaper than the 12month one?!

Whats O2 like?
I've never had dealings with them before.
Also what does + double minutes/texts mean?
I'm just not sure whether I'd like to order on the net as I want to make sure if I took the £35/month 12 month contract out I wouldnt be paying anything more than £35 providing I didnt go over my minutes. Vodaphone had a habbit of sticking extra things on my bill and I was sometimes paying £55/month for some reason.
Thanks

Im not sure what o2 ' 3g is like. I think they concentrated too much on Imode licenses and therfore didnt aqquire any rights to any poular things such as football.

i am currently on o2 2.5 (sony ericsson K750i) through an online contract and they have been brilliant in terms of me only paying for what i get and getting what I pay for, I am afraid I also know nothing buot their 3g stuff, but if u do get problems at least their customer service is based in UK with peeps that can speak english answering the phone unlike a certain network with a number for a name!!!!!!

where i am in manchester 02 3g covergage is brilliant. however 02 3g content is not as good as 3 or vodafone. but i am not that interested in video news . i want the wifi access .
cases now avaiable on ebay for 5.99 plus p & p for bodyglove cases

Thanks for the responses :D
How come when you go to order it, it appears as 'out of stock' yet you're still able to place the order. I have a feeling that if I placed an order I'd end up having to wait until they get more in stock.
I think I'll drop by Carephone Warehouse tomorrow and see if I can get hooked up. Just watch they'll have none in stock or cant do the same deal.

Rightfully so, the staff seem nothing short of useless in Carphone in Eldon Square Newcastle, but theres two other stores within 5 mins walk of that one which is stupid but whatever.
I'm not sure I even like Carphone, my mum got a Razor from there on Fresh and it took three weeks before the sim was registered!

I rang up at about 3pm today and they say they had been selling well and they only had a few left and was i interested. They also said that they had only received the handset in silver, and the next batch of deliveries would be a fortnight give or take. I said i'd leave it until they had it in black.

I phoned CPW at 9am to be told they had 250 waiting in their warehouse and they would not be released until friday.
Then the phone disappeared from their "coming soon" macromedia flash player, so I done a search and it came up as limited stock, however the online ordering was broken (so didnt get it thru quidco.com to earn £30), quick phonecall to e-sales and the deal was done, dispatch email received just after 4pm.
Cant wait to try this out , the wi-fi is whats sold it to me, the mrs has my N70 now, and the N90 will become a dedicated tomtom unit until its re-released for the N80 then will hit ebay.
Hopefully will have a mini review tomorrow night.

Can CPW order for you online from their stores?
I ask because I'm assuming the online deals are better than the instore.

Nope, CPW will tell you if any stores have the phone you want in stock, they did say a small amount would go to stores.
Did mobileshop.com get their order through? They still said expecting stock 02/05 this afternoon.
I'm hoping this will be unbranded, unlocked like my other 2 N series phones.

Only just seen this topic, so I'll re-post what I've just posted in the N80 on Orange (sorry for the double post, hope it's ok). Also checking the CPW website now just before 11pm, it's showing as "sold out" so I guess they've all gone.
Anyway, what I posted in the other topic:
Went to a Carphone Warehouse today to ask about the N80. No display model on the wall, but it's in the catalogue. On the phone comparison page where it lists all of the handsets and their features in a chart it's the Black one, where as on the main page where it shows the handset and network it's the Silver one.
Asked one of the members of staff and he tapped away at his computer to find out, and suprisingly didn't really seem all that helpful or clued up (they usually are) and just told me pretty much what I'd been able to read already in the catalogue. It definitely didn't seem like they'd already had any in, and seemed more like they were still waiting for them.
Their deals are a "free" N80 on Orange, O2 or Vodafone, but for example on O2 you'd be paying a huge £75/month line rental to get this phone "free"... (1000 minutes, 100 texts). Just goes to show It'd be cheaper for me to have my O2 PAYG deal and pay for a sim free unlocked phone up front as there's no way it's going to cost me £75 even if I pay the slightly inflated prices that simfree ones are going at currently.
The man I spoke to then said that they don't expect to have them "handset only" for around 6 months because "the networks don't allow us to" because apparently they want to see how well they sell on contract and if they sell well then they keep them on contract only for longer (which I can sort of understand - exclusivity and a good way to offer "free" handsets for huge monthly line rentals, but at the same time I know full well you can pick up the handsets "simfree" so it's not as if it's impossible to do...!)
Also, the catalogue (page 22) says the N80 has a... 2 megapixel camera. Doh. That's a mistake. They've got it right on the comparison table on page 55, but on that page they claim it's tri-band, where as it's actually quad band. And that page also lists the banding for their insurance for the phone if it was on PAYG/Handset only... which kinda contradicts what I was told about them not being available as simfree handset only... Also the memory card is listed as "MMC" where as it's actually "Mini SD", so CPW don't seem to have done particularly well with getting the facts right on the N80 in the catalogue that it's launched in....!
All CPW phones are unlocked
not the voda branded ones!!!!!!!!!!:lick:

It is clear that staff at CPW, when faced with a question they havent got the answer to they will generally make a (mis?)informed guess, rather than say 'im sorry sir, i just dont know'.
The amount of varying and conflicting information on this thread is insane.
i think i will wait for them to come out on all the networks, as i perfer to weigh up my options.. does anyone know which network you will be able to watch the would cup on??? :) i heard something about this a while back, but can't remember all the details...

Id guess them all, as long as you were subscribed to the relevant packages...if pushed i'd say T-mobile 'cos i think they are an official sponsor.

I was thinking of going with vodafone this time round... i started with one2one(t-mobile), then 3 the worse of the bunch, now i want try a different network. voda caughtmy mind due to the sky tv, stop the clock, and passpost. but now o2 looks interesting. but i will wait untill i can get one from a direct network supplier, as CPW are subcontracters from companies like vodafone. meaning your contract is with CPW and not vodafone... thanks for the help :)

I am not suprised by any of this from CPW, when I went instore to look at getting my current phone (K750i) about a year ago they told me it had 3MP cam (actually 2MP) and that it would not support bluetooth'd MP3 as ringtone (which it does) and that it WOULD support video calling (its a 2.5G phone not 3G phone!!!!) which it is unable to do mainly cos it only has one camera and you would have to turn fone round and be unable to see screen.
When I pointed this all out to the oik trying to sell me one, who had one in a box on his desk that he had got to show me the handset, he then tapped his keyboard and said "well they are out of stock now so I cant sell you one anyway" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last trip to CPW for me...........ever

Just placed my order, hope it goes through alright.
I stopped by CPW today in Eldon Square in Newcastle and the 2 boys in there told me they have it in stock.
I was on the phone to the sales hotline this morning and they said they werent getting any in until tomorrow.
Firstly the boys in CPW said they had some in this morning but they sold out within an hour. I asked if they were selling the same offer as online. He went on their website and said oh look theres some in stock!
So he was browsing and told me they're only doing 18month contract on it. I said you're wrong because I was on the website several times yesterday and was going to order it 12 month. He wouldnt have it so he gave me the mouse and I got it up! What idiots.
I was also gonna order in store but I realised again I couldnt use my Visa Electron. I told the other boy this and he disagreed. 'Its exactly the same as Visa' I said sorry buddy but its not!
Anyhow I'm home and after holding on the sales hotline for 15 minutes and not getting through I've placed my order from their website :D
Hopefully we'll hear some good reviews by everybody who recevied theirs today.

Im guessing he thought it was 18 month contract only because he went onto the cpw website and clicked the link on the home page of the picture of the N80.
It's actually on special offer with an 18month contract when you click that link, but you can still get to the rest of the offers by clicking 'pay monthly'

Probably so but instead of standing there arguing with me 'A customer' he should have checked straight away.
Theres 3 CPW stores in Newcastle and in each, none of the staff seem to know what they're doing. I dont suppose theres much of an interview process before choosing these applicants.

Just into Carphone Warehouse Cambridge - got told the usual spiel - however they were very polite and helpful - another confirmation/guesstimate that 'there should be no supply problems by the end of the month'.
Apparently it's Nokia arsing around and not shipping them, rather than any network fault now...

Sorry to sound like a total n00b but....
How is the CPW N80 available on O2 now if O2 CS just told me that their stock won't arrive til 5th June? Should a CPW N80 be treated with any caution?
Lastly, as a current O2 Max customer who can't wait until 5th June what are the disadvantages of just starting a whole new contract with CPW? I'm currently out of contract btw waiting to upgrade... cheers.
maxpp
14-05-2006, 04:59 PM
An N80 direct from o2 will have been branded by them in some way, i.e. they will have added some of their settings and/or their branded themes. A CPW n80 will most likely be an unlocked generic N80 direct from nokia that will have no network specific 'addons' this is a good thing btw.
The only disadvantage starting an o2 contract from CPW is that you cant haggle - you pay for what you get, whereas if you ring up o2 themselves they might cut you a deal, say knock 25% off your previous contract price, or give you a slightly better deal in order to stick with them for another 12/18 months.
I was told by o2 that their first batch of n80s will come on the 22nd...how odd

I had the 22nd as well until an hour or so ago when the nice lady told me the date was now 5th June... I s'pose we shouldn't take any date too literally.

Pretty useless email from CPW really seeing as it's been out at CPW for a few weeks now. Although, I've found CPW pretty useless in general with the N80.
