Hi all! First post here, but been hanging around a lot. Been having a problem with videocalling that started about 6 weeks ago, wondered if anyone had same problem.
I'm on Voda and the wife's on 3. Was able to videocall her without problem until 6 to 8 weeks ago. Suddenly 1 afternoon phone told me I was dialling an incorrect number, though I could voice call her and she could both voice and video call me.
Phoned Voda cs who told me I must be outside a 3G area! :D Pointed out that she could videocall me etc. Had about 20 calls to CS etc. Finally, they spoke to their Network people who told them this was a known problem that their engineers were working on. Apparently, many people cannot videocall 3 from Voda, but can receive.
This last conversation was 2 weeks ago and the problem still isn't resolved. I'm beginning to suspect that they are just B/Sing me to 'get rid'.
Anyone else having this problem?

I have noticed that the 3G service has been very unreliable within the last week, with Live! not always working, you'll just have to wait I'm afraid till its sorted

I had exactly the same problem. I'm on voda 3g and wife on 3. Video calling stopped few weeks back. It would say that number was not in use but worked fine if I rang it normally or if my wife rang or video called me. I just couldn't vid call her. Rang voda who said nothing wrong at their end and must be 3. Rang 3 and guess what? They said all ok at their end and must be voda prob. Hmmm. Wrote a sh***y email to both companies blaming each respectively and amazingly a couple days after these emails the problem sorted itself. Could be a coincidence but I'm not bothered as all ok now.

Thanks for that Stickystickman. Nice to know someone else has had the same problem. Was beginning to think that Voda were just making up a tale to get me off the phone, because they couldn't figure what the problem was
I've followed your advice and emailed both Three and Voda. We'll see what happens next!
I work for Vodafone and can offer some help.
The engineers are aware of this issue of video calls failing to the Three network.
They’re investigating it, and if you need to get in touch with Vodafone about it for an update you can quote log number 515428545.
I’d suggest using the web form at www.vodafone.co.uk/contactus.

Thanks IanG. I spoke with Voda again today and they confirm what you said. Problem is that this has gone on for over 6 weeks now!!! Noone seems to know when it will be fixed. Have you any idea of a timeframe?

Well, mine now works fine. Can video call her no probs. One coincidence is that a new 3g mast has gone up nearby to one of the 3g cells/masts I use. Maybe there is some connection there? I'm no engineer so plucking at straws but I had probs for a week about 4 months ago (not with vid calling though) and a new 3g mast went online about the same time.
Ian G - could there be any connection?
I've tried to find out if there's a specific timescale for when this will be resolved, but at the moment there isn't.
The fact that yours works (Stickystickyman) but yours doesn't (ManInBlack) could mean that the problem is limited to certain phones / number ranges or that the original problem with Stickystickyman isn't the same as the fault now.
It's not a certainty that the problem is with Vodafone, it could be with the Three network, so this is probably why it's taking some time to diagnose and resolve. I'll keep an eye on this one and post again if I see any progress...

Ian G, You obviously work for Voda and sound quite knowledgeable. Therefore could I pick your brains on another problem/issue? I posted a problem under 'problem viewing 3g coverage map' under the voda uk network section. It's a real pain in the ass trying to view the map with this problem. Is it something voda are looking into or is it such a small problem that they're not too bothered?
Look forward to your comments etc.

I was going to post a thread about this video calling problem myself until I saw this one. Tried calling my mate's Vodafone 3G N80 from my 6680 on Three but although both of us were within a 3G service area, it didn't work. I got a 'far end' incompatible message, as did my mate when he called me.
My number is a ported 07802 O2 No, his is a standard Vodafone number range No, could this be anything to do with it? Have Three had problems with videocalling other networks?

Hi, along with IanG I also work for Vodafone. The fault reference that Ian mentions (515428545) is still under investigation at network level. Sorry I've got no further updates on this.
teapot, the above fault only applies to video calls between Vodafone and Three, I haven't heard of any issues with calls to Orange. It might be worth asking customer services again if you've got the video calling provisioned on your account, this is just a feature that gets applied free of charge at network level onto your sim card which allows video calling to take place from the sim card.
If you still have problems let me know
