Hi All
going to make the switch I think from Orange onto TMob with an MDA Pro, just a bit concerned about the 3G coverage, is the interactive map on the website totally out of date? It shows random blocks of 'video calling' coverage but the other town checker basically says there is no 3G coverage in the North West.
Anyone any experiences of using 3G in the NW? Its pointless me moving Networks and going for the MDA Pro if I can't get a decent data speed

cheers
D

sorry I did phone and ask but the helpdesk basically said it was sketchy and could give further details, the inerative map shows tiny blocks of video calling in the middle of fields (where there isn't a mast)

If it's any help, I've got an MDA Pro in the West Midlands and have had no coverage problems what-so-ever.

The MDA Pro is a fantastic phone/pocket PC. For more info, check my site www.MDAPro.co.uk

I work in a shop at the base of a castle, so sometimes experience times of no 3g conectability. My MDA Pro still works when there's no 3g coverage, except Video Calls. It just switches to the next best service. I have had my coverage change from 3g to GPRS during a call, with no noticable difference to myself or the other party.

Hope This Helps

Ask to borrow a friend/colleagues 3g phone and do a network search in the areas where you require coverage. This should tell you which networks are available and (as you're searching on a 3g phone) which also provide 3g coverage in that area.

It's what I did when I wanted to see if I could get voda 3g in my living room in a house with thick stone walls. I did the search in various areas including one on the stone floor at the bottom of the house. This scan showed that I could only receive 3 3g and voda 3g. As such I took out a voda 3g contract knowing I'd get a good strong 3g signal.

Sorted.

I am based in rural Tarporley a little village just outside Chester. According to T-Mobile Tech Support, there is currently no 3G throughout Cheshire, certainly none where I live. However 2 miles outside of Chester as you drive in, bingo full 3G.

I do alot of travel mostly on trains between Crewe, Birmingham and onto London and have found the T-Mobile 3G network to be sufficient to conduct videocalls, VPN to my office and access LAN data and chat to co workers on skype by train all at the impressive speed promised by Richard "Virgin Trains" Branson.
