Im using a nokia n70 which should be the 3g, having never had 3g before i am unsure if its using it or not as i cant really say ive noticed any difference over the wap/gprs i used to use.
Can anybody help me with this?

The icon under your signal strength meter will alternate from an antenna (for 2G) to a 3G symbol as you move from 2G to 3G. 3G is quicker, if you haven't noticed any difference maybe you are out of 3G coverage.
thanks, usually see the 2g signal but am not in 3g area at the moment, will have to check when back at uni
