Hi

Im not sure if this has been listed before. I have an Orange Nokia N70 and have never used Video Calling. The main reason for this is i have no Friends.............................. that have a video phone.

I heard that when 3 "three" started out that they were to offer a service where you could get FREE software to allow a video call to appear on a computer screen? Is this true?

I would like to contact people and give them the Software so they can see my ugly mug when i call them. I may as well get some use out of the Video Phone.

Can you Help ??

I'm not aware of any such software.

I think operators will be wary of releasing software for computers, I'm sure they will try to discourage users from using voip style apps on their computers in case they like it too much and install skype.

Very true, thanks for replying. I read some where that only 2% of males and 2% of females have actually used 3G services?? Surely they need to do something. Im never going to use it unless anyone else has it. Poo.

Exactly, I have 1 friend with a 3G handset and the odd couple of times I have tried to video call him he was out of 3G coverage.

Eventually every handset sold will be 3G and the 3G networks are improving all of the time so I guess it is just a case of being patient.

I don't think video calling is going to take off. Why do you need it. I think people who would use this type of service wil do exactly what you mentioned above, VOIP and a Web Cam.

I think the real winner for the Networks is going to be TV on your mobile. Im using a service at the moment and its very good. Lacks channels and costs £9.99, but FREE for 2 months.

Yeah I watch Sky Sports News on Vodafone on the train sometimes. Free until the end of Jan. I wouldn't pay much for this service tho, when they start charging.

...my personal opinion is that Video Calling will be a "Killer Application", if it would be as cheap as a normal call...because enough people are out there, who surely would like do Video Calling with friends and family...if the price goes down you will
see the same success as it has happened with "Texting" in the past...the majority is using text messages with friends and family today to create additional revenue for the Telco's...and unless these Telco's don't understand it how to create additional mass market it will not happened...
