Hello,
Just heard that in order to beat the box breakers 3 are launching a line of phones with the sim cards welded inside them!
Ok, so not welded. But hard to take out and use the phone on another network.
Incase your wondering what a box brekaer is they are people who buy cheap 3 phones for say £50 and sell them on sim free etc for £100 ish.

Welded or even totally fixed in this would be enough to put me off buying a phone!
I don't agree with the box breaking scammers but come on, this is enough to put most people off not just the box breakers!
I like a phone that if I decided too, in a few months time I could get unlocked and use on any network! It's a big attraction to most people.
I mean honestly, in most cases (I Know three do some fantastic PAYT offers) you are paying almost sim free price for a phone anyway!
This is probably one of three's worst ideas

I agree. I think that just making the phone unable to unlock from three unless a fee was paid which would make it uneconomical for the box breakers to operate.

Very true but it would be a bit better if they went more in Orange's dirrection where in order for the store to get their commission on the phone they have to register it in store before the customer leaves and place a minimum of £5.00 credit on 1st!
Any stores which don't register on a frequent occassions will then be penalised!
Obviously they have to look after their business but this is going a bit too far. Surely when you buy a phone you can do what you like with ir as it's your property, it should be down to the dealer to prevent box breaking. Either that or 3 should stop subsidising their PAYG handsets so heavily

That would be the best idea because if it wasn't for the subsidised price the box breakers would have no market for the phones!
