Have just set up my vodafone.net email account hoping to get text alerts of incoming mail. Well, I could get it at a rate of 12p per alert. Ridiculous! It was free with Orange. In fact, you could even send emails directly to the phone (mobile-number@orange.net), which resulted in an alert including sender/date/subject.

Is there a way to send email directly to your Vodafone phone? Or do you know of any way to receive a text alert of new email?

Thanks!
Alex

I'm thinking of moving from orange too but this is the single reason i'm hanging on at the moment - have you found a decent email forwarding app yet ?

Hi

here's an idea - lookit this - http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=184178#post184178

Looks like the solution you are looking for - one catch is that you can only view one mailbox at a time though. Also functionality is affected by your phone - ie P910i can beep when an email arrives whereas 9300 on its own does not.

Post if you require any further details.

Afraid I haven't. Checked several SMS alert providers but, not surprisingly, they all charge fees. Don't think there's a workaround.

I don't like the extension of cellphones to the sending of e-mails and to other functions that required the use of laptops previously. The reason is that the hackers can now hack by using the cellphone and don't need the personal Computer or the laptop. I've been vouching for the development of technology that will ednable the cellphone to do exactly that. But this is not what I had in mind. What I had in mind was for the cellphone to be used merely to send the orders to a server that would then do the tasks that the owner of cell phone in mind. That would have put the hackers and music pirates out of business. That would have prevented the idle CPU time because of the introduction of multitasking at the server level. I've discussed it in my blog at

Wtf ? Try answering the question next time instead of writing rubbish...

Anyone know for certain if charges apply for receiving SMS notification of email to you vodafone.net email address?

Most newer mobiles have email clients built in as my W900i does. I was going to configure the email client last night to poll the mail server at a specified interval, but the phone warned me that the mobile operator may charge for doing this?
