Hutchison Whampoa Ltd has confirmed ZTE Corp is to supply it with 3G handsets, although it added it is continuing to talk with other suppliers about the provision of mobile phones.
A company spokeswoman declined to provide details about the ZTE agreement but noted that the handsets supplied by the Chinese equipment vendor will be for Hutchison's various markets.
'We continue to talk with other suppliers among them LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia and Ericsson,' she told XFN-Asia, adding that the company continues to seek other handset suppliers for its markets in Hong Kong and overseas.
It was reported that ZTE Corp, mainland's largest telecommunications equipment vendor, signed a deal with Hutchison Whampoa to supply the 3G operator with up to three models of 3G handsets.
The deal is the first of its kind between a mainland vendor and Hutchison, according to reports.
