Large numbers of Vodafone customers watched the opening night of the new TV station Talpa on their Vodafone live! UMTS handsets last Saturday. The evening-long programme was offered in full via live TV from Vodafone.
It was the first time that an opening night of a new television channel was offered simultaneously on mobile phones. Vodafone is the first and currently only mobile operator in the Netherlands to offer its customers the option to watch Talpa TV programmes on their mobile.
Graeme Millar, marketing director of Vodafone Netherlands, says: 'We are delighted about this agreement with the new station Talpa. It fits perfectly with our ambition to offer our customers an ever-growing range of UMTS services against the most attractive tariffs. With the addition of Talpa to the wide range of television services on Vodafone live! UMTS, Vodafone offers its customers the most extensive mobile television offering currently available in the market and confirms its number one position in UMTS in the Netherlands'.
Edwin Tromp, director Cross Media of Talpa; 'We think it is fantastic that the majority of our transmissions in the Netherlands can be watched in full via a mobile phone. Broadcast via different channels fits seamlessly with our cross-medial vision of offering viewers the choice of which content they want to watch. Talpa is setting up its own mobile channel to offer additional content. Soon content from different programmes that is not transmitted via TV, can be watched on mobile phones. And that is only the beginning'.
With the recent addition of Talpa, Vodafone customers now can choose from over 20 television channels on their mobile phone, including CNN, Eurosport, 2GOTV, MTV and news broadcasts from RTL and NOS. Currently Vodafone customers pay only 25 Eurocents for watching 10 minutes of TV on their mobile.
