When a Vodafone SIM card is inactive for 6 months, they cut it off.

You can call vodafone and get it reactivated - just ask. My friend had a pay as you go sim card which was in her old fone and dormant for approximately a year - she rang them and they reconnected it for her. Hope this helps

I'm sure one of the Vodafone people will confirm the following:-

Vodafone payg sims are now cut off after 90 days inactivity. They remain in quarantien for a further 90 days after which they are disconnected permanantly. To reactivate during the quarantien period you need to top up.

They are obviously tightening up - I am finding that all network providers are changing the new contracts. I took out a contract for my son in May 2006 which allowed you to roll over minutes for one month, I have just taken out a new contract with the same provider and no minutes roll over allowed - its difficult to keep up but at least I know what to ask when taking out new contract whatever the provider. Thanks for your help

For example, if you're on a Smartstep pay as you talk priceplan, If you're not actively using the phone (e.g. no chargeable outgoing calls or top ups) over a period of 180 consecutive days, the number will be placed into a semi-quarantine state. If this happens you need to either top up or receive a chargeable SMS/Call (e.g. a text alert) within 90 days to be removed from semi-quarantine. Any unused calling credit left on the phone during semi-quarantine will then become available again (you can still receive calls in semi-quarantine but can't make them). If the number stays in semi-quarantine (i.e. no activity) for over 90 days, the phone will then be placed into quarantine. If you're in quarantine you'll need to make a successful top up in a period of 90 days to be removed from quarantine, otherwise the number will be disconnected.

The main reason for this is to keep down the volume and of unused pay as you talk numbers on the network at any one time, as numbers are often put into a pool and recycled. This can occasionally lead to you getting calls from friends of the people whose number was recycled a year or so before (I've been getting this myself with my second number :) )

It makes sense - thank you for your reply - will retain it in the memory bank just in case.
