ok ok just got a 3 sim card and phone, pay as you go,

how do i go about checking my credit

Either ring 444, option 4 (free).
Or press the Triangle key, press Services, then My3 and the Credit Summary.

yep the 444 then 4 worked fine, 1 thing tho after 1 month of topping up if i havnt used all my minutes / credit up do i lose it

That's right, all top-ups have a 30 day window for use after activation, after which it expires. You can check the expiry dates of top-ups in the My3 area (above).
