i sent a email to three about a week ago and got this back yesterday
as u can see its a bit weird a vauge about whats going on with this internet access unfortionatly this all the info i have at this time but will have more info in future hopefully
Dear ****
Thank you for your email about internet access on your handset.
3 does not currently offer this service to consumers and you cannot use your
handset as a 3G modem to connect your laptop to the internet. There are
numerous reasons why 3 only offer restricted services; the primary reasons are
related to Copyright issues and Security.
3 are aware of demand for such a services and 3 are always working towards new
innovative services. It is possible that such a service may be made available in
future.
Thank you for your patience whilst your enquiry was being addressed. I trust
that the above clarifies matters for you.
Regards
David Duke

What they mean is, if they let people access internet on their phones, no one will want to surf around their crap site and then they won't be able to make loads of cash charging 25p to read the news or £5 for a game because we'll be able to get them cheaper or even free elsewhere.

Exactly . You have hit the nail on the head. If they deem they can make more revenue by not having the 'Walled Garden' or loose substantial amounts of customers then and only then will it change its policy.
"Copyright issues and security"
What complete and utter bumkum!
"new innovative services"
Hmm excuse me but what planet are these people on if im not mistaken Mobile internet has been around for a while now. maybe they dont have it in three fantasy land where people play in a walled garden where the swings are broken and the slide drops you in a pile a horse ****.
Three, you have lost over a £100 a month from me when i left, wake up or got the way of the dinasaur.
NAZA guess you do not know how much 3 earns from the 3 services :squareeye .
Giving free access or anything free is done by companies who work for charity not companies who have good business sense .And hey 100 pounds is like peanuts .

Good business sense! thats a laugh! Who said anything about free access!!! I pay over £40 a month for Data charges to vodafone now, i would have been willing to pay that on ON TOP of my normal bill at three!
And i grant you that £100 aint a lot in the big scheme of things but theres only 10 of those in a thousand and i can personally name 10 people that i know in day to day life that have left three becuase of this (in my oponion) short sighted view point. This is not inc the many people on here that have simmilar oponions.
I also have no desire to argue the toss about whether three are in the or the wrong in this this Country people tend to vote with there feet as i have done.
If three continue with this policy thats fine with me im not a customer anymore. My original post was just me venting a bit of frustration over the wasted years of waiting i have endured where customer services people have said "its coming soon" and "about 3 months" and even "oh yes we have that for business customers"
Perhaps Three should put on there website "Our network does not currenty support connection to the internet in any way shape or form and we intend to continue this policy until further notice"
I wonder why they dont this eh?

Why would 3 want to promote they are not having open internet ? Negative advertising like you suggest is hardly going to bring in the customers.
As upteem surveys etc have proved, so far approx demand for open internet is 15% of customers and most stated they required this around once every 2 weeks.
Three have decided their 'walled garden' works fine.
The fact that Voda and Oranges 3G launches have had a poor take up goes to show that there is no mass pmarket for open internet customers. Wi-fi and every faster broadband has taken up much of this market.
T-mobile and O2's 3g rollout is painfully slow.
So if you want open internet 3 isnt for you , quite right. But for cheap as chips phones and tariffs they are the ones.
Ok all goood points, (be intrested in where you got the 15% figure from though) however there is a flaw in your argument, they are selling phones and a service to the masses without them knowing the facts that the phone is next to useless when on the move as it will be many years before the "three" 3G netwrok is at the same level as say 02/voda orange GSM coverage and the more transmitters go up for a time a least the more painful the system is to use:
EG 1
You are at location X and you need to make a phone call call whilst on route to location Y, if the phone is on 3G there is a strong possibility you will get cut off on the way unless you first switch the phone to 2.5G (something which joe Average does not know how to do or even have the inclination to do it)
EG 2
You live in location that has got a strong 2.5G (O2) signal but a flippin awful 3G (Three) signal. The phone battery will go flat much faster and the phone will spend most of its time trying desparatly to lock to the 3G signal and as a result will spend a lot of its time not "online"
Are these and the walled garden whats is meant by "service limitations apply"

Fair enough. Not a problem, the wall will come down, just when is to big question everyone asks endlessly. Anyway regarding wi-fi I have found hotspots very handy. My local for example has one (MyCloud). It isn't cheap but then again in an emergency very handy and meets my needs. They do have a small coverage footprint, so that maybe why you are having problems. Steel and concrete structures between the transmitter and your receiver cause large signal loss. I have used it at home to my broadband and worked all over the house (even the loo !!).
