Hi Paul,
What are the details? How many months, minutes, cost? Why did you think you could afford it then? Is it your first contract etc etc?

Paul,
The best thing to do would be to sell the phone on eBay and then use the proceeds of the sale to cancel your contract with Voda in one lump sum (i.e. sum of rental x months remaining). I've done this with Orange before. It would usually cover it (or most of it), unless you're on an 18month deal, you fell for £40+ contract without need, or you choose a crap phone (or combination of such).

We aren't the people to talk to in that situation....If things are that bad you alway should talk to the company themselves to work out a deal...In general they always like it when you are pro-active about it, instead of just not paying....
Call them now, it is a free phone call...

in aus, depending on what plan you connect to for a 24 month contract with Vodafone Aus, it is half the plan selected, times the months you have left e.g: $79 supercap ($39.50) X how many ever months you have left, Talk and Txt $50 ($25) X how many ever months you have left etc.... if you have something like a Mobile Payment Plan which is your mobile if you didn't get it for free and paying it off is just how much is left on your phone..
that is how we work but i would deffinatly get in touch with Vodafine in your country :)
hope that helps
