View Full Version : My first 3G network problem - ARGH!

Hello all,

Right, basically where I work (2 miles from home) I am near a 3G mast for Orange. 2 miles up the road at home, there is another mast, but 2G only.

Ever since Friday afternoon, when the phone is in a 3G coverage area (Little symbol comes up), I can't make or recieve any calls, texts or do any WAP/GPRS.

No problem then.... manually select 2G and phone 350 to report? Not likely!

I own a Z1010 that always clings to a 3G signal, even after forcing it to 2G. Not only that, the cell handover seems to have fallen over as well, as when I transfer from 3G to 2G, it fails and I get "No Access" on the screen. I then have to reboot the phone and redial a number in record time in 2G before it kicks into 3G and cabbages things up.

Anyway, phoned 350 and explained the problem.

"Faulty phone mate", said OCS, "We'll get a new one sent out"

"It works in 2G and can actually find the 3G signal, just it can't use it", says I.

I cancel the replacement.

Yesterday, worked in Truro, where there is 3G coverage. No problems all day, confirming my phone is OK, and the network is at fault. I call 350 again.

They now blame the phone, until I explain that I have used 3G in another city and it has been fine.

"Well, the coverage on 3G in your work postcode is not very good", says OCS.

I disagree, stating that it's normally 3-4 bars and even when down to 2 bars the phone has worked, and it's worked OK since December.

They look on the system and it's not reporting any faults with the mast.

"Your phone must be faulty, Sir".

Now, getting rather wound up by this point as my wife now thinks I'm having an affair as I never turn my handset off, I try and ask them to get Technical Support to look at it for me. They refuse, stating the computer says "All OK".

As it happens, a mate of mine who I've not seen all week bumps into me, and pulls me to one side... "Has your phone gone t*ts up on 3G and coming up "No Access"?

At that point, I pass my phone over to matey who promptly kicks off in a better fashion than I could, basically stating that his Z1010 stopped working at the same time, so it must be a mast failure". He passes the phone back to me, and walks off to the pub.

I get put on hold, and they have now said that Technical will look into it for me as soon as possible. I ask how soon is "soon".

Here's the kicker..... they can't say!

"It may be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, next week or next month, depending on severity"

NEXT MONTH?!?!?!?!?

What can I do? An email to the exec office may be in order here.

Needed to get that off my chest, sorry!

All sorted.

After getting my dealer hat on, I called Dealer Support on Monday at 10am.

Fixed by 1pm.

RESULT! :D

Nice to hear that your problem is sorted, network's (or any company for that matter) have a tendency to pretend that there are no faults. :-)

Hi SIMAX, I had a odentical probelm with Vodafone and a SE V800. They said it was a poor service thoughh I had full strength 3G and a no access message on screen. Voda just nicely cancelled my contract. Did you find out what the fault was ??

Yeah, it was a local switch failure to Fareham that caused the outage. A reset of the link was all that was needed.

Sorry for the lateness in my reply...... getting divorced does that to you!
