when will they start selling 3g phones on pay as you go for an affordable price, i mean £400 for v800, who can afford that (if you are loaded maybe)?

ok.

Lets look at it. The V800 is quality phone and you would expect to pay a premium for it. However a V800 on pay and go for £400 is not bad, because its £150 on Contract with a tariff of £40 x 12 months

40 x 12 = £480 + handset price £150 = £630

So bearing that in mind its not a bad price

Or you can go with 3 pay and go for a cheaper range handset. But after all you do pay for quality

The V800 is a very expensive phone, and as Voda have it exclusively at the moment they can charge what they like for it.

It'll be a few months yet before we see any kind of competition. Maybe longer. For the main UK networks 3G is an extension of services for which a premium must be paid (to recoup the licence fee). They're operating very different business models than Three.

O2 launch on Feb 1st and have promised prepay shortly after, so I'd imagine 3G prepay will be around on Orange and O2 in a few months time.

Not all mobile networks need to give away £300 (Retail value) handsets to get folks on pre-pay. The majors certainly don't and don't force pre-pay customers to top-up every 30 days.

The handset price normally reflects what it costs the network to provide unless the pre-pay deal is adjusted and becomes a commitment based pre-pay contract (like threepay). Sadly, customers have to pay eventually and the networks have both models avaliable - the choice is yours.

i do think that vodafone and orange are taking the p i s s abit than 3 they say thay are offering all these free video call mins and data mins but they are not free really cos u are paying for the handset upfront an example

e1000 on vodafone £100 quid on the 3g tarriff
e1000 on 3 FREE yes FREE (its the same flipping phone) and its only 199 pre pay

c975 on orange £49.99 on the 3g tarriff (once again same phone)
c975 on 3 yes u guessed it FREE and its only 45 quid on pre pay

im sorry guys but you can praise voda and orange till u are blue in the face to me but we are getting ripped off i mean another option if u dont like 3 get it unlocked and use the other networks and it will still be cheaper than voda and orange

Like we have said in the thread. You pay for quality service..

But saying that 3 are charging 99.99 for the phone on Talk plan 500

u are missing the point what im getting at is vodaphone and orange are offering all the video call mins and data etc etc for FREE but they are not FREE because u are paying for the same YES same phone that 3 have to offer for a fee once again THEY ARE THE SAME PHONE let me give u another example

e1000= £300 on vodaphone pre pay

e1000= £199 on 3 pre pay oh and it cost about a tenner to get it unlocked

so what u are telling me that the firmware in the vodaphone e1000 is worth 90 quid more than 3,s e1000 even when its been unlocked and it can go onto vodafone anyway

dont take this the wrong way. But CPW site had z1010 on 3 pre order now in October 2004 and that never happened. I would also again check the facts if I was you. The e1000 is 199.99 from the Voda store and you are not forced to top up every 30 days unlike you do with 3. So its the same price and available now with a better network

But when Voda and Orange give the dealers access to their 3G handsets then CPW will be able to deals like that on Voda and Orange

i havent got a problem with the networks on how reliable they are cos im with orange for my business and ive got vodaphone on pre pay my problem is that they are ripping us off for the phones when another network can give them away and all thats different is the flipping firmware

But you are missing the point

The e1000 is 199.99 from VF pay and go. [/I] 3 have not even launch this has a pay and go handset yet and when they do it will be the same price.

The V800 is only available on VF and they are taking advantage of the fact with the pricing policy. Juts like 3 did when they launched the first 3G handsets. After all the networks are in it to make money.

One could argue that many purchasers would be prepared to pay VF more than that they would pay to 3 - if they were to consider 3 at all - to be able to use an identical handset on a network that offers greater (i.e. full) Internet capabilities.

May I be so bold as to suggest that there seems to be a common perception by many consumers - supported by many retailers and some networks - that the handset (and its price) is more important than the network upon which it is used? In my opinion the two have to be considered in conjunction with each other.

it all depends where you shop. ARGOS have the phones at these prices:

Moto E1000 (Three) £214.95
Moto E1000 (Voda) £299.99
SE V800 (Vodafone) £399.99.

However in VOdafone Retail the E1000 is £250 even though advertised at £300, i know this because i for one just a few days ago. Im also sure you can pick up a V800 in Vodafone Retail for £350 not £400. They really need to scan the phone and check the price.

When i went into Vodafone the E1000 was on display for £300 and i was happy to pay it. Lady (very nice lady at that ;) ) scanned it into the till and it came up at £250
