I have a nokia 6630 on voda 3g since i got offered a cheap upgrade from my old phone on the 22nd December. I work in Southport area and have 1 > 2 bars of 3g signal at work. I cannot make or recieve any calls or messages. I have tried manually setting the network to 2g but reverts back to 3g again after a few minutes. To make a call I have to reset the phone and make a call. This happens in a few areas although when the 3g signal is strong there is no problem at all its just when it tries to swap back to 2g in low 3g signal area.
Im very frustrate and vodafone dont seem to have any answer other than, oh yes that happens sometimes. Maybe its the phone or the network!
Im still trying to persue this, so if anyone has a suggestion please post.
Thanks.
Phil

It sounds like you have dodgy coverage in your area. I'd demand that Vodafone take the phone back and cancel your upgrade, leaving you free to terminate your contract or upgrade to a 2G handset.

I agree but what I cant understand is that it just wont swap back to 2G when the signal is bad unless the signal goes altogether. The 2G signal is full in all the bad 3G areas im in. I reset my phone and get a barrage of txt messages and voice mail! Then off to 3G is goes and wont come back grr
The phone is great otherwise.

this is a known fault with the 6630 - the other vodafone 3g handsets switch between networks effortlessly. it might be worth considering a switch to one of the others..

Whilst the Nokia software (especially the Vodafone branded one) leaves a lot to be desired, there are some other utilities that can help.
There is a utility called OperatorFTD which can be downloaded from http://www.symbian-freak.com/downloads/Other/OperatorFtdwk39v7.zip
Once installed on your phone, go into "Options / Change Display" and enter 8101; once the new page is displayed go into "Options / Execute"; enter 0 for automatic selection, 1 for GSM only mode, 2 for 3g only mode. NB the phone will reboot once this option has been changed.
There are other options within this app which can mess up your phone, so you have been warned.

Yes this is a known issue and its Nokias fault not vodafone the software vesion is the lowest as none of the other are completely compatable with vodafone at the moment but they are working on it so it just have to wait strange cause i use a 6630 with no problems at all
