Hello everybody, and a happy new year to all.
I'm experiencing a strange problem on my brand new Moto C975.
The phone is unlocked and I'm using it with a Virgin SIM right now.
But the phone won't stay on the network at all..
It looses the signal every few minutes, it's especially bad when moving (i.e. on the bus)
After being swithced on it's ok for a minute or so, then the problem starts.
it goes from 2G to 2.5G then 3G, maybe back to 2.5G again and then all of the sudden it completely drops the network, no signal bars left, network name disappears and that's it. Sometime it regains the network bars after 3 to 5 minutes, but I still cannot make any calls ("call failed"), only in very rare occations it will recover fully, but then only for a minute or 2, and then the cycle starts all over again.
I've tried it on other networks (orange) as well (roaming with a german T-Mobile SIM), it's the same.
Does anyone experience similar problems with this Mobile outside the 3 network?
Or has anyone found a solution, yet?

it is because the phone is continuously trying to search for a 3g signal. you need to lock it down to 3g.
for you to be able to use a phone on 3g normally on orange, vodafone, or T-Mobile DE, you need to get it 3g activated, which orange currently do not do, though vodafone are happy to unbar 3g on your sim. i have no idea about T-Mobile but i'm assuming its the same. Virgin do not have a liscense to provide 3g as yet
to fix the problem, flex the phone with 3g.hs, which i think i have a copy of floating around on my pc somewhere, i'll have a look
if you give me your email ill email it to you with the relevant software and instructions

does the flex editor for the a835 actually work on the c975? and if so what do you use to upload it to the phone, PST 6.7?, i thought these new moto's had a new algorythm to stop this?

i've just tested this out on my c975 and i can confirm that it does indeed work, i've added the bandlock menu, removed the "3" shutdown screen, removed the lock on the left button to remove the quick menu, activated the ability to move the network header to the centre of the sceen, as soon as i've unlocked it i'll be able to use it on any network without it dropping signal

unfortunately it also loses access to the memory card as the a835 don't have one so i'd recommend not using it this way

that's great news anyhow - I couldn't care less abut the memory card, so I'm gonna try it the way you said.
Gonna start with the full menu for network selection only, maybe this still leaves the memory card bit intact..
pobolius, can you drop me a line at xxx@xxx(edited) please? Have some questions

no, the problem is that you're using an a835 flex, i also tried it out on my Motorola c975 t-mobile version, and it also worked but lost the dual memory function, i had to re-flash fully with a non t-mobile flash (what i could get) in order to use the phone properly again, and in that flex all i specified is to remove the startup logos

what is?
a full se6904aeoxxx.hs from a u15 on a c975?
andrewkeith5

it would most probarbly work but it would disable the memory card

PST identifies the c975 as a Secure Reflash Rainbow,
or in other words, identical to u15 and a835.
I'm just going to full flex it, back in a sec.

Andy,
I'm having the same problems as "mototrasher" however I'm using an Orange USIM in the handset... It's really, really begining to annoy me, to put it politely. With a 2g SIM everything is fine, calls go out, calls come in. As soon as my USIM is inserted, the network goes, no calls can be made, no calls come thru.
Are you able to help me sort this out? What do I need to do!?
Thanks in advance.
G.

ok 3gglasgow, i will help you to the best of my ability
when you inser the usim into the phone, what happens exactly?
has the usim been registered and 3g activated with orange customer services?
have you tried the usim in another orange phone, and does that work?

Hi Andy,
This is what happens:
2g SIM... The network appears as normal, shows on the display 2g then 2.5g, calls can be made and calls can be received, all text messages come and go as normal.
3g USIM... The network appears as normal, shows 2g, then 2.5g, calls can be made and received, it switches to 3g and it all goes pete tong. The signal bars vanish, calls can't be made or received (calling my number you hear a constant engaged tone) and no text messages can be sent or received either.
My USIM has all services activated, video calling, video answerphone, 3g data the lot. I use it in my Nokia 6650 everyday for work no problems... its just the moment it gets into the c975 it doesnt play ball. If it keeps up this nonsense it'll be heading for eBay!
If you've got any ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it!
Cheers
Graham.

I somehow managed to get the GPRS settings on the phone before it changed to 3G and found that I can browse Virgin Bites when the phone is in 3G or "no network" mode, I'm just completely unable to make or receive calls or texts.
One other thing, were any of these phones marked "Permanently locked to 3" on the box when bought? Mine was when I bought it from Newcastle at the beginning of last month yet worked perfectly on a Tesco 2G only SIM (which I stupidly lost :( ) and works fine in 2G and 2.5G mode on Virgin then becomes a GPRS-oly terminal on 3G on Virgin. I'd have thought that if the phone was locked to 3 that other SIMs just wouldn't work, have 3 been a little more sneaky with their locking on these particular handsets or did I get an unlocked phone by mistake?
UPDATE: I went round various moblile phone shops (well, the metwork shops excluding O2 whose pay & go SIMs are 2G only and therefore ought to work perfectly in my phone) and got various results, T-Mobile had exactly the same trouble as Virgin of course which the man in the store did tell me about, Orange had the same bother as well, to the complete bafflement of the Phone Trainer, only Vodafone's SIMs allowed me to make calls in 3G mode, I didn't test GPRS as I don't have the settings on my phone, just the settings for 3 and Virgin.
